Summer Pottery Group

The summer pottery group invited me in for a tour this morning so we could display their summer works of art.  Every potter (artist) created some very innovative pieces.

What a great way to spend a hot summer afternoon.  I know they had fun!!

Video of Court Pour

Here's a link to a You Tube video that someone put on the Palm Creek Facebook page.  Check it out!
Great video that shows how the screed machine works while the concrete is being poured in the background.  Awesome!

Tribute to Simone Sarty

I received an email from Peter Hughes with the attached obituary for Simone Sarty who was a resident here at Site 204 with her husband Pat.  Simone was well known to all the baseball people and her husband Pat is
heavily involved in the softball league.

If you go to this site www.comoxvalleyecho.com and go to the obits button on the top header it will lead you to the site where the obit is posted. You can leave a message of condolance there.

Thursday

Congratulations to the new homeowner at 1318....whoever that may be as we saw them digging for a new house on that corner lot this morning.

We met up with Fernando and he explained that all these new trees will soon be planted in the median out on Cottonwood as the city has asked Palm Creek to build the road out there while we construct our new wall and fence.

The contractor doing the wall on Cottonwood hasn't made much progress lately that we can see.

Say hello to Fred and Popcorn.  We spotted them on the green this morning as they took advantage of the cooler morning hours.  (*Note:  Weather permitting, the back nine and Pro Shop will open October 22.)

As we proceeded on our journey, we saw the water truck headed our way and immediately decided to take a detour to get out of his way.  We didn't need a shower that early in the day.

Fernando and crew are cleaning up the entrance way.  Here are some fun photos to show Fernando at work while Faustino gets to sit on the tractor.

I'm guessing Fernando lost a bet!

We stopped to take a quick look at pool progress.  They certainly did a job on breaking out the tile yesterday.  It will be interesting to see what comes next.

Half of the sunken pickleball courts were poured last night and the other half is prepped.

Here's a quick video from Don as he went in for a closer look:

I keep receiving questions about Erica Lesus and her new role so I'll copy what appeared in the latest newsletter from Wendell:

"I'd like to introduce a new addition to our Palm Creek management team, Erica Lesus.  Erica is the Director of Guest Services and will report directly to me (and, no, I do not have any immediate plans to leave Palm Creek).  In her capacity as Director of Guest Services, she will oversee the Guest Services Office, Activities, Mail Room, Special Events, and Pro Shop areas.  When you can, stop by to welcome Erica to Palm Creek!  Read more about Erica in our upcoming November newsletter."

Wednesday

WOW.............there are some MAJOR repairs being done to the big swimming pool for the next month.

Check out this video that Don took earlier today as it better shows the level of activity.

The posts are getting ready for installation over at the pickleball courts.

Tuesday

We received a call from Mr. Dawson saying we could video the post tension work today so we hurried out to the site with cameras in hand.

I was expecting some kind of big truck that would put that kind of tension on the rebar cable....but WOW....it's just this small machine that is able to exert the 7500 pounds of pressure to stretch that cable tight.  This will help prevent the concrete from cracking in the future.
Don tried to get it on video for you.  Click on this link:
PostTensionCable

The 7500 lbs of hydraulic pleasure is multiplied by the cylinders to put a tension on the rods of from 20 to 30 tons.

Here's the photo of my video man on the job!  :)

Back to the work week after a long restful weekend.  We saw the APS trucks out in force this morning to switch out a couple more transformers.  I dread when it gets to be our turn and be without AC for a few hours.

See those ugly spots on my camera lens?  Looks like I got some dirt inside the lens again while taking pictures of a dust storm.  We either live with them or buy another camera.  Can never seem to get rid of dirt inside the lens.  Dang!

I could see Jim Dawson out there talking with the crew.  Looks like they'll try to pour the sunken court Wednesday night.

The September newsletter arrived this weekend.  There is an article that says we're still on schedule for a grand opening of the sports complex on November 5, just in time for the first fall league softball game.
Linda Balzan is working diligently on the set-up and staffing for the Sports Grill.  They'll use some kind of temporary trailer this year until the official Grill can be built.  There are so many exciting projects underway.

Sorry I didn't get to the pork steak dinner last night.  My dorky knee kept me home under an ice pack so I couldn't attend.  I should mend in a couple more days.

Monday (Labor Day)

We had another baby haboob last night.....naturally the day AFTER we had cleaned our patio.

Since today is Labor Day there wasn't a sign of activity anywhere in the construction area.  All was quiet.  In fact, the only person we saw this morning was Gerald out cleaning up the aftermath of the dust storm.

It was so quiet that the buzzards were landing.

This is probably as close as I care to get to a black vulture.  BIG bird.
There is a nice Labor Day dinner planned for today up at the club house but unfortunately I will not be able to help out with serving and kitchen duties.  I messed up my knee again so am resting it for a few days.  Maybe they'll let me attend as a guest so I can at least get some photos.

Hallelujah!!!  I finally solved my uploading problem and can rapidly upload photos once again.  I was one unhappy camper there for a few days as it took FOREVER to do a blog entry.  I was ready to scream!  Now I'm dancing a jig of glee.

I went down the street to the clubhouse to play cards Friday afternoon and saw this gusher greeting me.  What is that?

Oh...I know what it is.  They're draining the pool and getting it ready for a whole month of maintenance work.  The whole area is fenced off as they have much work to do in the coming weeks.  I'll let you know the full plan once I talk to Jim about it.

Bill and Don, Larry and Bob spend their afternoons at the pool tables.  We each have our happy way of spending a hot afternoon in the cool air conditioning as I'm across the way with friends in the card room.

Now that I'm happy again, I can blog away in bliss instead of FRUSTRATION!  We all owe a big thank you to Chris Guld of Geeks on Tour as she helped me solve the upload problem.
