Summer Tickets

The summer Happenings is already on line.  Here's a link for you:  Happenings Newsletter

I stopped in the Activities Office to sign up for most of the upcoming events.  Just when I thought my calendar would clear up, there is more to come.

Those of you fellow desert rats that stay here during the heat of summer, can stop at the office to get your tickets for upcoming events.

Don and I enjoy our short morning walk over to the bridge to watch the birds.  It's refreshing and enjoying to watch the action.  Also love the sound of a babbling brook.  Mallard duck was munching on fresh moss from the bottom, male grackle stopped by for a cool drink, and Mrs. Grackle indulged in a quick bath.rel=0

The black-capped night heron stood watch for a fresh breakfast.

Winners

Today's post is all about winners.

Annual Texas Hold'em Tournament of Champions
Jeff Vaughan (Stumpy) winner
Fred Pedberachny 2nd
Sandy Schoonover 3rd

2019 Omaha Hi/Lo Tournament winners.
Urban Allen 1st, Diane Schmaltz 2nd and Tom Moore 3rd.

Dave & Kathy Porterfield took a ride out in the country to capture some winning photos of our desert in bloom.

Rosemary Hoyle won the starburst game at Bingo for $270.

Lynn Dodds won the final blackout on the 58th number to take home $592.00.
That's a LOT of money in Canadian dollars!  :)

We honor Marie Neukom as the winner who introduced us to the wonderful game of SWOOP.
The game is perfect for us as it is easy to learn and a perfect place for new people to join a group.

I can tell that Jim and Kathleen's grandchildren were here for their annual visit.
Their tradition is to leave a chalk message for all of us.

We spotted this black crowned night heron at the pond on our morning walk.

The winner of the week has to be seniors at play.
We had a 7 hour marathon mahjong game on the patio in the beautiful weather with a couple crazy friends enjoying their bubble gum.

A Beautiful Day

Don and I went for a walk this morning to enjoy the beautiful weather.  The sky was so pretty with the wispy clouds.

First stop was to watch the golfers for a while and chat with Doug as he monitored the 10th tee. The course looks very nice.

We spotted this green heron as we crossed the bridge.  He was busy fishing so we didn't want to disturb him.

We always take a minute to watch the koi and catfish.

Now that the weather has finally warmed and we see lots of sunshine, the flower beds have really perked up.  Love the smell of the petunias.

The white egret or great white heron was looking for breakfast over at the pond on #18.  Beautiful bird!!

Enjoy the beauty all around us.

End of Season

It's late March and the season is winding down.  We took our morning walk across the golf course and stopped by the pond to enjoy the scenery.

This anhinga was sunning himself and didn't pay any attention to us.

On the other side of the bridge, this mallard came very close to say good morning.

Later in the day, we enjoyed the end of season party sponsored by the park.  Over 1,286 meal tickets were sold so the lines were long but the food was great!  Robin and her staff continue to do a wonderful job of serving delicious foods.

Bicycles seem to be the favored mode of transportation since parking is at a premium these days.  Better for our health too.

Don sent the drone up in the afternoon to watch over the lawn bowling and scan over the center park for a view of the crowds.  Video quality isn't the best.  Ran into a few computer glitches.

Fun Stuff

Water volleyball held a special event again this week.  This badminton game placed some targets (circle of noodles) on one side of the net.  Participants used a racquet and a wiffle ball to try to land in the target.

Gayle Schendzielos was first place winner followed by Erin and Bill.  Congratulations!!

This challenging game really looks like FUN!!!

The poker club volunteers give Texas Hold'em (and Omaha) lessons every Wednesday morning.  This week they held a tournament just for their students.  Proud winners were:
First:  Ken Stanton, Second: Mac Kryzanowski, Third: Sue Nigg

I'm sure you'll see them at the tables.

Don and I drove home from our bridge game last night and had to stop to admire the "worm moon".  An article in the Dispatch explains it as a worm moon because the full moon appears on the spring equinox bringing the worms to the surface of the earth.  Sounds weird but with that light cloud cover, it was certainly beautiful.

The new fountain in the main lake really looks nice.

We took a walk this morning to enjoy the beautiful weather.  That new fountain looks pretty by day also.  The ducks seem to enjoy it too.

This happy couple can be seen in the creek almost every morning.

We noticed some activity by the solar lights that line the cart path through the course.  Yahoo!!!  They're converting from solar to electric so the path will finally be lit at night.  So happy to see that as the path is dark without them.

Maintenance electrician is busy at the huge project.

That's my news for the day.  Must now hurry off to other activities.
Kat and Mouse are still active here at home.  Mouse tends to follow Don wherever he may be.  Here he's hiding in the closet to keep an eye on Don while he works on his computer.

Bathroom resting place.

Have a GREAT day and enjoy this beautiful weather!

Food Trucks, Olive Trees, and a Bug

Our two favorite food trucks were here again Thursday afternoon.  Yum!!  Be sure to visit them the next time they return for an event.  Great food!!

The olive trees that lined the lawn bowling court provided shade.....but too much shade to grow grass along the edges of the court.  Sooooo.....goodbye olive trees.

Really looks different now.

We spotted this pretty moth by the Adobe Room.  Had to take a photo to identify him with his pretty stripes and coloring.  He/she? is white-lined sphinx moth sometimes called a hummingbird moth.  Very pretty.  We carefully placed him in the nearest bush to keep him safe.
