Labor Day 2020 will occur on Monday, September 7. Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers and is traditionally observed on the first Monday in September. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894.
For some of you the weekend will bring great outdoor events. For those of us here, we'll continue to hunker down in our air conditioning. The incessant heat goes on and on. Ugh!
I overheard a complaint the other day about how our tree trim contractor lets the palm branches lay out on the street for a day or two before picking them up. Actually, that is a very wise idea for them. They let the branches lay so they can dry out and become lighter in weight. When you haul a load to the landfill, it becomes crucial to have the lightest load possible because you pay by the pound.
In years past when our PC crews were trimming, they picked up the branches right away but then piled them up in a huge pile by the maintenance department to dry out. I remember our woodshop folks complaining about the smell and flies that pile would draw. So rather than complain, we should be happy to have this new system as the alternative.
You can see how they even sort these piles by dry branches and those that still need to dry out more.
New houses still pop up here and there in the new section.
I don't know if they're purchased or if they are spec homes.
We still don't have any activities in action other than water aerobics and pickleball so there's not much for me to report. Folks are out riding bikes, walking the dogs, etc in the early morn before the sun comes up. We enjoy chatting with a few as we are out on our rounds.
Sometimes we have to wait for the ducks to cross the road.
Mouse is looking for action too. He still can't figure out why he can't get that furnace filter door to open anymore.
Have a SAFE holiday weekend!!
