Quilts of Valor, Lawn Bowling, Glass Show, RC Flyers,

The sewing guild makes headlines again this week as they distributed their "Quilts of Honor" to our veterans.  We pay tribute to Manson Polley for his 30+ years of Air Force service.  He is very honored to be among those receiving these works of art from the Guild.

Congratulations to our winning Lawn Bowl team:
Greg Falls, Jerry Andrews, Ernie Carlson
Congratulations to the first place winners at the Bowls USA 2020 South Central Division of Senior Triples Open in Sun City.

Another outstanding display of beautiful workmanship from our Glass Shop.

If you want to see photos or information about the huge pickleball tournament held here this week, go to the pickleball website at:  https://palmcreekpickleballclub.com/

We do have one special player to acknowledge.  Kay Thiede (referred to as "speedy Thiede) has been spotted on the courts with her son Vance.  Kay is 97 1/2 but can't find enough players in her age bracket.  She smiles and says she's willing to step down to the 85+ bracket.  Congratulations, Kay!!

From the RC Flyers:

CASA GRANDE — The Casa Grande RC Flyers will hold an event from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at the club airfield, 2725 S. Isom Road.

This year’s event, benefitting the Casa Grande Food Bank and Pets In Need Action League, might be the club’s largest yet, organizers said.

The field gate will open at 8 a.m., allowing those wanting to set up for the event’s swap meet to display their goods before the official event start time of 9 a.m.

On hand will be representatives from Pets In Need Action League who will serve coffee, hot chocolate and pastries for donations, as well as food vendor Secret Ingredients, which will sell morning and lunch items.

Superstition Hobbies, a large Queen Creek hobby shop, will display the latest in radio-controlled aircraft and radio-controlled car racing products. Its team manager, Alan Moulton, will hold a special, free Spektrum Transmitter seminar assisting hobbyists to take advantage of all the features of the transmitters. The seminar will start at approximately 11 a.m.

Casa Grande RC Flyers’ lead instructor, Maurie Sumption, will be available offering free radio-controlled flying lessons using his Apprentice model aircraft under his expert guidance and dual control. The lessons will be offered throughout the entire event.

Rick Chitty, a professional pilot representing Hitec/Multiplex, will fly his “flying lawnmower” and other interesting aircraft.

Representatives from Superstition Hobbies and members of the Casa Grande RC Flyers will also fly different and unusual aircraft including jets, gliders, drones, biplanes and others throughout the morning. Club members will be on hand to answer questions about the hobby.

A “combat” dogfight starts at 10 a.m. and a radio-controlled car race demonstration will also be held. There will also be a raffle for a new model airplane and other items.

The event is free to attend. Donations will be accepted for the Casa Grande Food Bank.
