Flowers

Went for a bike ride this afternoon and snapped a few pictures of the cactus that are starting to bloom.  So sorry that so many of you had to leave before these beauties spring forth.

Just had to share the cute gift we recently received from friend MaryAnn Hansen.  Considering the times, it was a very thoughtful addition to the farewell gift!  Thank you, MaryAnn! 😀

Mahjong players are happy to find the new 2020 National Cards have arrived.  Couldn't wait to try out the new hands so we got on line and played long distance with Shirley Beck up in Canada.  We facetime to chat and play through a website on line.  Fun!  (Kat likes to keep me company too.)

I recently read the following email note from a friend.  Yikes!!  The pressure is on to keep posting on the blog!

"Just checked your blog and saw all the masks the sewing group made.  Good on them.

Sue your blog is so important to us all.  Please keep posting.  It is our lifeline to the outside right now - ha ha.
Hi to Don - hang in there and keep safe and healthy.
Love, Ann Merriman"

Thank you Ann.  I'll try!

Our Sewing People are at it again!

I heard that our sewing people have been busy at work making masks to donate to those in need.  With all the charity work these gals provide, it doesn't surprise me that even without their sewing room, they're able to contribute.  It makes me proud to have them as residents at Palm Creek!!

Here's the message I received from Kary:

Hi Sue, was talking with Renee and she mentioned you'd like photos of the masks we've been doing.

It started last Thursday when Maureen mentioned it at a meeting we were in to make masks. I'd said then that I'd read where medical facilities didn't want the masks as they weren't protective enough. Then the next day they decided they could use them over their now rationed masks as an extra layer of protection even over the N95 masks. Well then I made a few contacts and had a couple of guild members who had contacts, then I got the ball rolling by contacting as many members through our private FB Page. The result is in a week 96 masks were made this week. 70 + went to Banner Urgent Care and 20 to Oasis Pavilion Senior Care.

Banner Hospital got back to us this week and they need all 100% Cotton ones with ties not elastic, so we're working on those. We're thinking at least 500.

People can drop the masks in a box I have on my front porch at 1268. I'll get them to the needed facilities. The need for masks could be huge here. I know some members are sending masks on to their families that are on the front lines in their medical facilities. Which is great too!

It's been so fun seeing the masks and my heart sings for our PC Sewing and Quilt Guild. So very proud of them.

I'll send pics in just a sec.

Thanks You,
Kary

Onward

It's a relief to hear from travelers when they reach home.   They relay stories of hotel worries, closed restaurants, traffic, and headaches through airports.  "There's no place like home" rings very true in times like this.

Although we know they would rather be here to continue their escape from winter.  They send photos and woeful stories about missing our sunshine and warmer temps.

I think our remaining residents are being safe here.  I'm sure they're using social distancing during their happy hour congregations?  Our weather has been gorgeous with mid to upper 70s so it is a true pleasure to be outdoors.

We observed a golf cart parade tonight with nine carts of followers as they cruised around the streets.  At least there are 6 feet between carts!  😁

Per yesterday's posting, don't forget about the food truck visit this coming Wednesday from 4 to 6:00.  It will provide a bit of a diversion for us.

The final tally is in from the big Cancer Awareness weekend and events!

Palm Creek presented a very large check ($35,100)  to the Alliance Cancer Support Center located in Casa Grande.   Money was lovingly raised by residents, guests, and sponsors during a Cancer Awareness Fundraiser at the end of January 2020.     (Pictured from left to right:  Scott Houle, General Manager; Kembly Mourelo, Executive Director for the Center; and Marion Nelson, Event Manager)

Food Truck is Coming!

Memo from Marion Nelson:

Palm Creek will allow a Food Truck to have entry and sell prepared food on Wednesday, April 1st, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm at Palm Park.  We are starting on a trial basis and following current state regulations where prepared foods can only be sold as "take-out" or "to-go".  This opportunity is intended to provide our residents with a convenient option for obtaining meals without having to leave the resort.  Please be aware that no tables or chairs will be set-up, so you should plan on stopping by with your car, golf cart, or bicycle.

The first Food Truck is Philly Up, who has been a regular attendee at our park-wide events.  Here is their menu for planning your "night out" without having to cook.

Be sure to tell your neighbors and friends as not everyone has access to this blog or to Nextdoor.

To Those on the Road

We've been saying adieu to friends for the past two weeks or more.  I don't envy them the long journey back to their other home with the world chaos to contend with.  Here's hoping they all have safe success in getting to their destination.

Meanwhile, we have weathered the most recent rain storm and are once again enjoying the bright Arizona sunshine.

Always look for the nearest rainbow.

I had to promise my dear (sometimes over-protective) loving husband that I would definitely remain anchored to our house for the next several weeks until we learn more about this health crisis.  Having endured pneumonia twice in the last six months, I will stay sequestered on the side of safety.  It takes a strong pledge to keep me away from the card and game tables!

Our park activities are shut down but work and maintenance continues.  I see landscape crews out digging the pesty weeds that thrive after the recent rains.  It is a never ending task to stay ahead of them.

Heard a lot of loud noise coming from a crew across the street from us so sauntered over to see what was going on.  (Yes....I stayed at least 8 feet away.)  The workers are from Tee Pee Sand and Gravel.  They are digging out the old footing and installing new to replace the street light post on the corner.  I guess the old one was rusting through so is being replaced.  It is a much bigger project than it sounds.  Lots of digging and specialized equipment involved.

Kat and Mouse don't seem bothered by the world events...although I think poor Kat would prefer a bed of his own.  That top bunk always seems top priority.

How will we manage to abide by the requested quarantine?  Saw this on Facebook this morning and felt it fits the bill.  😏

This is an unprecedented global event which requires everyone to be continually vigilant.  While there’s much uncertainty surrounding the virus, it is necessary to err on the side of caution for the benefit, health, and welfare, of our team members, residents, and guest’s.  Although this temporary decision is not one we would ever want to make, it is necessary at this time.  Thank you for your flexibility and patience as we all work together for our collective wellbeing.

60s Mania on Facebook

Since it's raining outside, I'm spending time at the computer and decided to look up the 60s Mania website on Facebook.  They posted some nice photos of their evening at Palm Creek.

Three cheers for our Activities team that sets up all the chairs with seating labels and charts.

Photo & Art Show, Sixties Mania

The Sixties Mania show was FUN!!  They played all the best songs from the 60s that brought back a flood of fond memories.  We laughed because we knew just about every word to every song.  We traveled through the Beetles through the Rolling Stones and the Monkees.  Yes!

*********************

Thank you to the folks from the Photo Club and the Art Group.  Sunday's  show was really enjoyable as we perused their accomplishments.  Just another example of how we "creekers" enjoy our retirement.

Marlene Thurlow got some award winning shots of our friendly neighbors:  the Burrowing Owls.  Awesome!
