Sports Day, Maintenance

OMG!  Here is Dora Rocha, head of our housekeeping department, hard at work washing the windows around the ballroom.  Dora is one hard working, devoted lady.  We need to give her huge accolades for her dedication to her job and leadership of her staff.

Aha!  Problem solved regarding the new roll-on containers for recycling.  Thank you Maintenance Department for the nice ramp.

A crew of landscapers were blowing all the pine needles and debris from the golf course lots.

Huge piles of pine needles accumulate under those trees.

It's fun to take a daily photo or two of various places around the resort.  Such a pretty place to live.

Back to the fun for the Sun Communities staff as they were told to dress for the specialty days this week.  Wednesday was "hair and socks" day.  Wear a special "do".

As to the weather.............it's the same stuff day after day.
Still a very unusual monsoon season without rain or dust storms.
We're having just plain old HEAT and sunshine.

HA!  This one is funny and so true.

No antics for the cats today.  Just lounging photos.

Seniors Having Summer Fun

Tapas Tuesday again.  Today's special guests were "the fellas" from our social committee as they presented a skit to advertise the big Trailer Trash party to be held next Tuesday.

John Mizer, Chip Milner, Denny Miller
They used Ken for a sign post.

Meanwhile, unrelated to all our local fun, Sun Communities held a special week for all employees.  Monday they were to wear country, today was Neon, tomorrow is hair and socks day.  I caught a few of them on camera and will definitely be back in the office for more tomorrow.

Yesterday we were honored to have two Detectives here as guest speakers to tell us about the notorious Tison Gang that once terrorized Casa Grande and the surrounding area after their famous prison break.

We truly enjoyed hearing from these two as they shared their experience in connection with the events.

A movie was even made regarding the story.

After their presentation, they received a long standing ovation from a very appreciative audience.

Accompanying them was a representative of the police department who is in charge of volunteer services.

It was an outstanding presentation by these professionals.

I can tell that autumn is approaching as the daddy longleg and harvestman spiders are found in every nook and cranny of houses.  They usually congregate near the door handles much to my dismay.

I carry a big duster (Swiffer) and clear the doors before entering.  It doesn't matter if you have monthly pest control or not....spiders are prevalent this time of year.

Daddy-longlegs are generally beneficial. They have a very broad diet that includes spiders and insects, including plant pests such as aphids. Daddy-longlegs also scavenge for dead insects and will eat bird droppings. In the fall, they can become a nuisance when they congregate in large clusters on trees and homes, usually around eves and windows. Additionally they can be found in damp crawl spaces, unfinished basements, and garages. Rarely are daddy-longlegs encountered inside finished, living spaces of homes.

Since daddy-longlegs are beneficial predators and scavengers in nature, control should only be performed when absolutely necessary. The clustering behavior only occurs during the fall and for only a brief period of time. Daddy-longlegs do not   damage   structures   when   they   cluster.  If control is necessary, due to a large number of daddy-longlegs that is considered unpleasant, insecticide sprays labeled for exterior use on spiders can also be applied directly to daddy- longlegs found outdoors. However, in nearly all situations,  chemical  control  is  not  necessary.  Most daddy-longlegs can be removed from structures with a vacuum or broom.

I end today's post with two more photos of our beautiful park.

Trimming

I don't ever remember the golf course being this green in August.  Makes for some lovely photos.

Trimming continues ALL AROUND the park.  I especially notice the difference along the main road where the olives trees are being cut way back.  Many shrubs have been removed too making the area more open.

You can really tell the area that hasn't been done yet.

There is a contractor here today removing dead trees.

Just saw them up and haul them away.

Whoops.............I went to the coffee and donut event this morning but was enjoying chatting with friends so much that I forgot to take photos.  Oh well.........you've seen donuts before, right?  The tickets were cute too.  Sponsored by none other than Amazing Dental (again).

Greenbelt, weeds, cloudy sky, and aluminum cans

New lighting has been installed all along the greenbelt.

Also spotted a bench along the way to rest and enjoy a bit of green space.

The Weed man (our new contractor for weed control) has been busy.  This green spray appeared yesterday which I'm guessing was sprayed around the obstacles of water pipes and electrical boxes.  Then the bigger equipment will be able to spray the more open surface later.

Palm trimming is finished down Oasis.

Clean up crews had big blowers and swept the debris into the street for pick up.

Sometimes we just have to stop and take some pictures of our desert surroundings.
We live in a beautiful resort.

Unfortunately, no rain came from this cloud cover but the contrast from our normal bright blue sky was enjoyable.

MORE RECYCLING NEWS

We always seem to spot Kent Evans out in the early morning cooler temps.  He is on his rounds of collecting aluminum cans from the designated barrels around the park.

There is good money in "them there cans".

Kent and his 5-man team of Urban Miners have voluntarily collected the cans, built their own crushing stations, and daily crush the cans into bales for recycling.  All funds are donated to local charity.

For the 2018-2019 season, this group has donated $4,300 to the Casa Grande Food Bank!  That equates to approximately 220,000 cans!

Multiply that effort for the 12 years this group has been dedicating their time.  Their records show they have donated over $42,000.

Congratulations to the team:

Kent deserves extra praise because he is the only full-time resident so he carries the burden all by himself during our hot summers.

Our 5-day weather forecast.
Still no rain predicted for us.  It's a strange monsoon season.
