Outdoor Movies, Shuffleboard drone, and OWLS

Don gave the drone a little exercise by just cruising over to the shuffleboard courts for a quick tour.  ALL the courts have been busy this season.

Wednesday and Thursday nights our residents were treated to a presentation from our chorus members.  It is exciting to see their enthusiasm for their favorite "sport" of singing.  There were some nice added touches too including a great guitar solo, trumpet accompaniment, a tap dancer, and even a very graceful sign language interpretation of one of the songs.

So much work goes into these performances.  Funds from ticket sales keep the chorus supplied with their music and equipment but tonight a check for $2,500 was donated to the Visa Grande music department and another $250 as a thank you for the marching band at our cancer awareness parade.  I cherished Betty Steel's comment that she hoped the students would remember that in 50-60 years from now they would still be able to enjoy the music they learn today.

Our first movie night was a nice success this week.
Be sure to mark your calendar for more upcoming shows.

Movies start at dusk ~6:30.  Bring your own comfortable chairs or blankets.  Concessions will be on sale and a food truck will be on-site starting at 5pm.
  • March 17:  Coda  (Bama BBQ food truck)
  • March 30:  Here Today  (Philly Up food truck)

I had an opportunity at the Bistro today to meet our new Palm Creek General Manager, Dennis Jordan.  It sounds like he has plenty of experience in the mobile home industry, sales, and resort management.  He was also at the chorus concert tonight so we should get more chances to meet with him as he will be residing here within the resort.

Welcome Dennis

I noticed that someone has redecorated our burrowing owl nest across the street from the front gate.  There is now a cute "Protected Owls" sign to mark their turf plus a nice array of rocks to mark the spot.  I walked across the street to get a picture of the nest but the little guy was outside soaking up the sun so I didn't want to get close and disturb him.  Thus this long distance shot was best I could do with a cell phone.

I received an email from a past PC resident and fellow blog reader regarding these owls.  He (Paul Andrews) attached a link to this interesting article about what it takes to move these protected owls to new habitat.

These local birds are well photographed as that nest has been active all through the 17 years that I have lived in Palm Creek.  We've spotted them in a number of locations:

I even caught this little guy lunching on a dove.
There's plenty of food here for them!

Fellow residents and camera buffs have sent lots of beautiful photos as well.

Some day the manufacturers of cat trees will realize that cats get bigger and need larger beds on these trees....although Kat and Mouse manage quite well.

It just doesn't look all that comfortable, however, when curled up so much that your head rests on your back feet.
