Upcoming Events & Drone over Sports Complex

Don took the drone up this morning for a quick tour over the sports complex.  The area is well used and very popular!

Our Tuesday morning coffee session was full of information with the upcoming Fireman's spaghetti dinner, welcome back party, and the cancer awareness weekend.

JD introduced one of our newest sponsors called Wildcats Express Transportation.  Greg introduced his services.  They offer transportation to and from the Phoenix and Tucson airports with pick up at your door.  Visit their website at http://wildcatsxpress.com/

Our big Cancer Awareness weekend is fast approaching on January 31.  There will be many events to support the cause including a golf tournament, rubber ducky race, flamingo flocking program, etc.  There will be 9 big hot air balloons present and, of course, the huge luminary display.  This is a weekend where many volunteers will be needed.  See the sign up sheets in the Activities Office.

The activities calendar says there is a patio sale this Saturday, January 18.  Time to clean out the closet and storage space?

Even though I am an avid Android user, I still attended the iPhone class presented by John Winston on Monday morning.   John does an excellent job of presenting and teaching.  Monday's topic was Google Maps.  The class has a huge following and the room was packed with eager students.

I came across a few more Casino night photos compliments of Sandy Foulks.

Casino Night

Casino Night was another FUN event.  It started with another of Robin's delicious meals.  Yummy shrimp basket.

After eating, we could proceed to the SanTan room for some gambling.   We received a wrist band at the door to show that we had tickets for the casino.

A cash bar was available.  LOL....no cute little cocktail waitresses in skimpy costumes though.
Marion Nelson and her special events team did an outstanding job with all the set up and take down throughout the day with the Club Expo this morning and then this big event the same night.

We were each given a chip worth $500 in casino funds to use for gambling.

We could play Blackjack, Texas Hold'em, or head to the Roulette table.

Some of our local residents volunteered as dealers......and they were the most fun!

At the end of the evening, IF we had any chips left, we cashed out at the door in exchange for a ticket to drop in the drum to be used for a drawing for prizes.  The more chips you cashed, the more ticket entries you received.  Winners will be announced sometime today.

After gambling, we headed over to the ballroom for a nice dance with music provided by the popular Spotlight Band.

ANOTHER ENTERTAINING EVENT AT PALM CREEK!!

We've also enjoyed a brilliant bright full moon this week.
Pretty good shot using just a cell phone!

After such a long busy day, Don recovered in his easy chair with two cats for comfort.

Club Expo

Today was a "first" for the Club Expo event and it was a definite success!  Over 30 clubs set up display tables in the ballroom to advertise their club and activities.  It was a great way to advertise our activities and make residents aware of all we had to offer.

A panorama shot of the busy ballroom

It was a BUSY and noisy place due to the traffic of curious visitors.

Poker anyone?

The Club Expo provided an excellent opportunity for the Freedom RV display.  Eric was happy as he sold several RVs during the weekend.  We thank Freedom RV for being a great sponsor.  They also provide donuts for the Tuesday morning meetings and give nice door prizes.

Jones Auto was also successful as they sold a new car this weekend during the event.

I copied this letter from Scott Houle regarding the Dish internet problems some residents have experienced.  Copies will also be placed in mailboxes later today.  If reading on a computer, use Control + to enlarge the print.

Welcome to the Busy Month of January

Welcome to the busy month of January with the tsunami influx of snowbird arrivals!  Many kudos to our hard working rangers, greeters, front desk, activities, and mailroom personnel.  Their friendly greetings and customer service make a big influence on any newcomers visiting Palm Creek.

I had the pleasure of meeting "newcomers" this week when they parked their 5th wheel across the street from us.  It was FUN listening to their first impressions of our beautiful park.  They're excited to learn about all the activities available and are already planning to extend their stay.

We enjoyed the Tuesday morning coffee and the big list of upcoming events that were announced.
We're so lucky to have Marion and JD Nelson on staff!

CANCER AWARENESS WEEKEND

Preparations are underway for the huge cancer awareness weekend January 31.  Different organizations will be conducting fund raising events, tournaments, etc.  Last year Palm Creek was able to donate over $32,000 to the Cancer Alliance program.  Marion announced that Palm Creek/Sun Communities does NOT benefit from the funds but 100% is donated to the Alliance.

T-shirts will be on sale for the cancer event weekend.  See the sample available in the Activities center.  Cost is $16.  Great shirts this year.  Check them out.

The flamingo flock program will return again where you can sign up to have a friend or neighbor "flocked" with a display of pink flamingos in their yard.  FUN event.  Check in activities for details.

The Pro Shop has some Nine and Dine events scheduled and a Big Cup tournament.

The balloon glow is a MUST event to attend.  There will be 8-10 large colorful hot air balloons on display that night...Friday, January 31.  The balloon pilots will be looking for crew members to help with tethering.  Watch activities for sign up.  (Thank you to local resident John Ross for organizing this huge event!)

SATURDAY NIGHT DANCE

Whoops!!  I hear that the band  at the January 4 dance was  definitely not up to Palm Creek standards.  This same band was scheduled for February 29 but their contract is now canceled and a different group will be announced.  Those holding tickets for February 29 will be contacted by Activities with further information.

This announcement was issued by Activities Director:  Ashley Delgado

EDWARDS TWINS

Have you watched the TV series "The Kominsky Method"?  The Barbara Streisand impersonator from that show is one of the Edwards Twins that will be performing here this Wednesday, January 8.  Ten tickets were still available as of this morning.

FREEDOM RV SHOW:

Freedom RV will have quite a few rigs here on display for the weekend.  Stop by to browse their showroom in the Palm Park area.

CLUB EXPO

This year over 30 clubs and organizations will be setting up a station in the ballroom to talk about the events they have to offer.  It will be a great chance to browse and ask questions about classes, meetings, and events.  Stop in to check it out from 10:00 to 1:00.

CASINO NIGHT

Casino night is this Saturday, January 11.  Tickets are sold out but there are still tickets for the dance starting at 6:30.  The Spotlight Band will be playing and they are very popular.  Hurry to get your tickets.  The dance is not a BYOB event because the park has purchased a liquor license for the night.

CRAFT FAIR

Be sure to attend the Craft Fair Tuesday, January 14.  Fun shopping experience with a large assortment of vendors.

ADVENTURES OF KAT AND MOUSE

I noticed that Mouse was very interested in our furnace filter compartment of our park model.  Why??

Aha.......now I know the answer.

Of course it means we had to replace the filter.  I then securely taped the door shut to avoid further incident but that didn't work as Kat still managed to pull the door open and ruin another filter.  Finally Don had to drill a hole and screw the door shut.

Due to popular request, Becki Andrews is adding another fun "Sip & Paint" session.  Sign up in Activities for Sunday, January 12, at 1:30 in the Prickly Pear Room.  Bring $20 to pay for supplies as everything will be provided.  BYOB for the sipping part.

Should be a FUN afternoon!
