Event Announcements

 I haven't seen enough advertising recently so thought I'd post an announcement about a couple upcoming events.

The Palm Creek Pottery Club is going to hold their pre-Christmas sale this coming Sunday, December 1 from 1:00 till 5:00 in the Ballroom.  The club members have been working on projects all summer.  Come do some Christmas shopping for special hand-crafted gifts.  They have some surprises too!

The Palm Creek Chorus has been practicing for their annual Christmas concert.  These concerts are always entertaining and its fun to see neighbors and friends sharing their talent.  Get your ticket in Activities.  

The "giving tree" is already assembled and on display in the Activities office.  Each year we try to support the Pinal County Foster Children and make their Christmas a little brighter.  Pick a tag from the tree and either choose a gift for that child or donate.  Full procedures to follow are listed near the tree.

I just saw this ad on Nextdoor.  Looks like there will be more than just the pottery.  

By the way, we had two winners with G55 at bingo tonight!!

Another lucky winner got Bingo on the 57th number and took home over $400!  Join us every Monday night.  Tickets go on sale at 6:00 and games start at 7:00.

Readers say they enjoy cat pictures from around our house.  Here's Don hard at work trying to fix a computer for a friend.  Scooter is "helping" ???

Speaking of computers and helping friends, I am frequently asked if I will present some iPhone classes again this season.  The answer is YES.  I keep finding more new tips and tricks with these phones that I'd like to share.  Here's the class schedule so far:

The new IOS18 will soon be published and it is loaded with new opportunities.  I especially like the "fun" stuff we can add to email and text messages.  Even if you attended our beginner class last year, there will be new stuff to learn.  There are sign up sheets on the Activities board.  I ask for a $5 donation as the funds help support this blog.  Hope to see you there.

Monsoon Storm

 Sunday night, July 14, we had a typical summer monsoon.  It was quite unexpected and not forecasted until late in the afternoon.  The wind started to pick up and then suddenly....."thar she blows".  A number of us summer dwellers grabbed our cameras phones and had fun trying to capture some photos.

Don and "our boys" were stationed at the kitchen window to watch the action.

We took a quick video.  Watch closely as the debris blows down the street.  It is sweeping up all the palm "snow" and knocking down a lot of the brown bark from the palms.  This morning at 5:45 I already saw our landscape crew out picking up the bark and probably surveying for any wind damage.  It really wasn't much of a storm so I doubt there's any damage anywhere.

Avis Gray usually gets some good photos as the storms approach as she is located over on the south east side where most storms come from.

When we use the term "monsoon" storm, you would think it would mean some rain as well.  It rained but hardly got the street wet.  Just enough to turn all this dust into clinging mud.  <sigh>

Today marks two weeks post surgery for my knee.  Now it should finally start feeling better.  Thank goodness Scooter is here to keep me entertained.  We watch TV together.

and if he can manage to open a cupboard or drawer, he helps by cleaning it out. 😒

Christmas Parade

 We held the annual golf cart Christmas parade yesterday under a warm sunny sky.  Congratulations to our Activities Department or whoever was watching the weather and moved the parade to Thursday instead of this Friday.  Today is cold at 54 with some nice heavy rain.

Christmas Parade

We grabbed a couple still shots as the revelers passed by.  It was fun to gather friends and neighbors to sit on the corner and cheer for the participants.

Our friend, Janet Hoppe, gifted us a Christmas tree so Kat and Mouse could celebrate the holidays too.  I'm surprised and delighted to report that it is still standing.  😀

Rummy Anyone?

 Thanks to Terri and Barb in Activities, 28 of us had a fun time at the first 3-13 rummy tournament on Friday afternoon.  In fact, we had so much fun that we decided to have a Rummy game on Sunday afternoons at 1:00 in the Adobe Room.  Rummy is a very versatile game with many versions and can be played with any number of players at a table.  Do you like to play cards?  Like to meet new people?  Come to the Adobe Room Sunday at 1:00.  No need to sign up anywhere.  We'll decide which games to play depending on the number of people who attend.

While I was out having fun at the card tables, Don was home watching the team from Rodriguez landscaping who came and washed out our gutters and downspouts and trimmed the palm trees in our front bed.  They did a great job!

When they finished, they rinsed the whole driveway and even cleaned the debris from the street.

Wednesday was our ice cream social.  It's fun to meet with folks for a nice snack and some social time.

We kept the staff busy with dishing up the goodies.

I can't get a photo at night but the asphalt crews are out patching cracks in the streets.  Starting tomorrow we face the challenge of getting to our cars and carts and avoiding the wet asphalt.  We received a text message with the following announcement:

Starting next Monday, 8/14, the paving crew will be applying seal coat on the roads north of the tennis courts.  There are 6 phases of this paving project, and it should be completed by the end of August.  Please review the attached map to see which phase your home may be in.  The night before your street is scheduled to be worked on, please park your car on an adjacent street on the north side of the street.  Please do NOT drive on your street for 24 hours after it is sealed.  Driving on fresh oil can cause damage to your vehicle and can stain your driveway.

I just checked Weather Bug and see that we should have some relief from the heat.  It's still showing triple digits but at least its not OVER 110!!  And....there's even a slight possibility of some rain??  I'll believe it when I see it.

Mouse BD, Artisan Show

We received a text from the park this morning announcing that Palm Tree trimming will start on the golf course on Tuesday, June 20 at 6a.m. and will take about two weeks.  The golf course WILL be open during this time.  (Must be some brave tree trimmers!) 😉

I saved a life:  

 Sometimes a little honey bee will fall into the swimming pool.  I try to rescue them by tossing them up onto the edge of the pool (without getting stung!)  Then because I'm standing in the pool, I'm actually eye level with the bee as it tries to recover.  One day I happened to have my cell phone near enough so did a little video of the bee drying himself off so he could stay alive and fly away.  I thought it was fascinating to watch:

June 16 was Mouse's 6th year adoption day.  Such a cute baby kitten.

Now a 6-year-old spoiled monster.  😸

What a great idea presented by our Activities Department!  Many of our talented residents love their hobbies but may wind up with a lot of extra inventory items.  Here's an opportunity for all of us.  It's an Artisan Craft Market just in time for Christmas shopping.

Mark your calendar now for Saturday, December 2 when all these lovely hand-crafted items will be displayed for sale.  This advanced notice will give our crafters the opportunity to create some special items for sale.  This should keep our woodshop, pottery, stained glass, and all crafters busy building inventory.

I'm sure Chef Maywalt will have a great lunch for us that day.  Speaking of Chef....here's another reminder to our summer residents to visit the Ballroom Cafe for breakfast or lunch!  This week's special will be those yummy Monte Carlo sandwiches!  That GREAT salad bar will be there too.  

Golf Course, CPR & AED

 Aha!  We're getting ready for the snowbirds to return.

Thank you to Barb Poole and Glo Mason for holding another informative educational seminar for the summer residents.  This week we had an instructor from the Casa Grande Fire Department who reviewed proper CPR techniques and gave us hands on experience with an AED machine.   AED = Automated External Defibrillator

All residents should know the location of the AEDs around the park.  They are indicated on the Palm Creek maps and can be found in multiple places around the resort.

Our instructor also talked about the phone app called "Pulse Point" which indicates where emergency vehicles have been summoned.  

While enjoying our morning coffee, we witnessed  two baby doves struggling with their Mom to get breakfast.  Talk about eager kids!!
