August Update

I haven't written for quite a while.  I'm still waiting for my left leg to heal after knee replacement surgery.  <sigh>  I feel very house bound.  At least now I can get out to the clubhouse for some card games but I still have to be careful about leaving the leg down for too long or it swells up all over again.  Patience!

The Adobe Room was closed for a week while a crew came to refinish all the poker tables.  Should really look nice when completed.

Now if we can ask all players to use some caution and not jam their chairs into the tables.

Poker was canceled during those days but other card games, mahjong, and Mexican train continue.  There are round and square tables available in Sonora North.

I've had several residents write and ask for a copy or the August newsletter or a link on the corporate website.  I can't find a link on there either but I can attach some copies I took myself.

And of course, our weather remains HOT and the forecast says "Continued HOT".  I just pulled up Weather Bug.....lo and behold....the forecast is below 110 for the first time in weeks!

We've had a couple thunder showers in the past 2-3 weeks but no true measure of rainfall.  Plenty of dust and debris flying around so its hard to keep the place looking clean and pristine.  The streetsweeper could go down the street today and an identical mess would reappear the next day.

That's all the news for today...other than a quick look at how much Scooter has grown.  Now he fits all the way across my chair.

Kat still tolerates the little monster.  Here Scooter uses Kat's tail for a pillow.

He's really adorable....when he's asleep. 😃

Monsoon Storm

Sunday night, July 14, we had a typical summer monsoon.  It was quite unexpected and not forecasted until late in the afternoon.  The wind started to pick up and then suddenly....."thar she blows".  A number of us summer dwellers grabbed our cameras phones and had fun trying to capture some photos.

Don and "our boys" were stationed at the kitchen window to watch the action.

We took a quick video.  Watch closely as the debris blows down the street.  It is sweeping up all the palm "snow" and knocking down a lot of the brown bark from the palms.  This morning at 5:45 I already saw our landscape crew out picking up the bark and probably surveying for any wind damage.  It really wasn't much of a storm so I doubt there's any damage anywhere.

Avis Gray usually gets some good photos as the storms approach as she is located over on the south east side where most storms come from.

Another viewer sent this one.  Photo came via text so I don't have a name to give credit.

When we use the term "monsoon" storm, you would think it would mean some rain as well.  It rained but hardly got the street wet.  Just enough to turn all this dust into clinging mud.  <sigh>

Today marks two weeks post surgery for my knee.  Now it should finally start feeling better.  Thank goodness Scooter is here to keep me entertained.  We watch TV together.

and if he can manage to open a cupboard or drawer, he helps by cleaning it out. 😒

Hello Again

I wonder what percentage of you blog readers have survived at least one knee replacement.  It seems when you sit around a card table, a good number of people have experienced the surgery.  Those who have, can certainly understand the pain involved.  Ouch!!  I remember quoting "well, the first two weeks are living hell and then you start to recover."  I'm still within those two weeks so haven't been able to sit long enough at the computer or concentrate enough to get much done.

It's a rough summer for we Hepler folk as Don has had some TIA or heart problems so seems to be at the doctor more often than me.  Until they discover why he gets light headed or dizzy, I'm afraid to let him go out to do housewatch chores in this intense summer heat.   He's been going out to do a few but we are a little behind on our schedule.  We'll get it all done but we're both a little slow.  This too shall pass.  (we hope!)

Here are some pictures Don brought home this week.  It looks like some major water line work being done on Cole Circle near Mica and Cobalt Lane.

There is also a nice sized "pond" on fairway #7 which we assume is residue from the main break.  It certainly isn't from a recent rain storm!  Don stopped and talked with Ken at the front gate.  Ken said the ducks are having a wonderful time on their new playland.

I haven't been out of the house so that's all the news for this briefing.  I've heard from a couple folks that the summer meals are still great!  In the meantime, I certainly have little Scooter to keep me entertained.

An open drawer is an open invitation.

Scooter tries to help Don fill the ice machine for me.

Why the two of them like to cuddle up on top of an end table, I'll not know.  Kat just tolerates the little white wizard.

Have a GREAT day!

Second Monsoon Storm??

Our WeatherBug alert went on Friday night and warned of a potential storm headed our way.  It may have "stormed" somewhere nearby but, unfortunately, not much here.  We did get .03 on the rain gauge and at least received enough moisture for a rainbow.

The afternoon sky was beautiful.  I was coming home from the card room on my scooter and just had to stop to try to get a picture.  It was soooo pretty.

A group of us are going to Harkins Sunday to see the Horizon movie with Kevin Costner.  We'll post a review next week for you Costner fans.

This will be my last outing before my knee replacement surgery on Monday.  Right knee was done on March 28.  Left knee scheduled for July 1.  Can't wait to be upright with TWO good legs after mending.  Will keep you posted.

****************
I've learned that I must post Scooter pictures at the end of each blog entry or I get complaints from our readers.  We received some new towels in a big plastic bag this week.  OMG!!  Scooter is absolutely delighted with the plastic bag.  I put one of his jingle balls inside and it entertains him for a long time.  He chases it across the floor, jumps on top and slides across the room.  So fun to watch.  BUT....we learned that we must pick it up when we go to bed at night as it is a very noisy toy in the middle of the night.  😖

There's no such thing as a closed door to a kitten in one of these park model homes.  😸

Yes.......kittens are adorable!

First Monsoon Thunderstorm

Last night we received our first rainfall since April!! Hallelujah!
We received almost a half inch so it was delightful.  Beautiful thunderstorm.

Another nice part of stormy weather is that it brings clouds to our blue sky and makes for some awesome sunsets!

Last week Weather Bug gave this prediction of our upcoming week.

Unfortunately, today we get a different view without the possibility of rain....just more HOT.  The hot stuff we can handle, but this humidity of 51% makes the air thick and hard to breathe.

Today's Casa Grande Dispatch had some interesting news.

Scooter is doing well.  He's still adorable.  He's still full of KITTEN playfulness and joy.  He still pesters Kat until Kat jumps up high where the little devil can't get to him.  We live in a small house here but it must be like a huge mansion with exciting places to explore for little Scooter.

Don needs to learn to hang up his nicely laundered shirts BEFORE Scooter decides to nap on them.

I must hurry now and get ready to head up to the Ballroom for that wonderful Taco Tuesday!!
Have a GREAT day!
