Lunch & Drone Announcement

OMG!  Today's prime rib sandwich with onion rings was GREAT!!  

I always have to check the board to see what the day's special will be.  

Everyone agreed that the food was DELICIOUS!

I had the opportunity to be guest speaker at the Computer Club Wednesday so talked all about Picasa and Google Photos.  I hope folks enjoyed the information.

Next Wednesday, January 31, Don is going to be guest speaker and will share information about his drone and the background to taking good aerial video.  The club is open for guests so if you are interested, be sure to join us Wednesday at 9:30 in the Santan Room.

Don is also noted for his fascination with a flight simulator. 

 He decided to make another upgrade so is tearing apart his room to get ready for the new station.  

Good luck finding a place to sleep for the next couple days.

Mouse and Kat are fascinated with all the new toys they find.

Goodbye Sams Club

Just for curiosity, Don and I stopped at Sam's Club Saturday afternoon to see what (if anything) was left in the store.  The waiting line to enter had dissipated by the afternoon so we had immediate access and didn't have to wait in line.  WOW!  It was quite shocking to walk in and see the racks so empty. 

 There were plenty of shoppers filling their carts with whatever they thought worth buying at the terrific 50% off price.  Don and I joined in and filled our cart with items that we will eventually use.  When we got to the checkout, the cashier asked if we wanted to use our reward points toward our purchase.  Reward points???  I wasn't aware that we had any so said "sure".  WOW again!!  We had accumulated enough reward points that we got that entire shopping cart of items for FREE......and we still had $1.32 worth of credit.  What a wonderful surprise!!

Marion Nelson mentioned at the Monday morning coffee that she too will miss Sams Club because they bought so many of their supplies for the park without having to drive up to Phoenix.

Marion also reminded us that the deadline for meal tickets for the Friday carnival is fast approaching.  We can still participate in the carnival events without a meal ticket however.  Many of our clubs and organizations will be showcasing their events at display tables, so be sure to walk around and see what's available.  Bring money for alcohol.  :)

Keep your fingers crossed for good weather on Friday!  Our January weather is unpredictable for an outdoor event.  If it is too cold or inclement, the event may have to be canceled or postponed.

Quilters & Sewers Blog

I was just surfing through the Palm Creek blogs at www.palmcreek.blogspot.com and came across the sewers blog.  I'm not a member but I just like to graze through the sites to keep in touch with what is happening around the park.  WOW!!!  I am so impressed by the Quilters & Sewers here.  Just look at all the stuff they have happening in their group of enthusiasts.

Housekeeping

• HUGE FABRIC SALE.  We will be selling a portion of Nancy Duitsman's fabric starting at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 19th in the Sewing Room.  There will be Fat Quarters and Fat Quarter bundles, 1/2 yard and 1 yard pieces, plus other sizes and bundles.   There are some wool kits, embroidery supplies, yarn, many batiks, and a large bin of homespuns along with  a large assortment of regular quilting cottons. Pricing equates to about $2.50 per yard.  Please do not open or dismantle any of the bags or bundles.  What you see is what you get!!    At the request of Nancy's husband, all of the proceeds from this sale will be donated to our guild  to be used specifically for our charity projects.  A second sale will be forthcoming as soon as we have an opportunity to inventory the remainder of her "stash."
• DEFIBRILLATOR DEMONSTRATION  Also, on Friday, January 19th, at 10 a.m.  in the Sewing Room will be a demonstration in the use of the Park's defibrillators.
• JANOME TRAINING -- Also, on Friday, January 19th, at 9 a.m. is training for the use of the rental Janome sewing machines.  If you are unfamiliar with the rental machines and plan to rent, please attend this class.
• Jan 26th Welcome Back Party--Gwen Borgen working  the Quilt Raffle Table-volunteers to assist, please contact Gwen
• February 8th Meeting and Luncheon-- Renee Farrell and Lois Kunklehave  said they will host. Thank you ladies.  Big  House will  be catering.  Our Speaker for the meeting will be Amanda Murphy - Bernina Connection will have products available for sale. 
• Reminders.  We have some Maytag Irons.----- We must return the steam dial to closed or the iron will seem like it is leaking
• The park is aware of poor lighting in parking light, please be careful .  Try to leave your light on to light the way or pack your phone for a flashlight or use a flashlight.  Be careful.
• Conflicting  information on the bathrooms in the Prickly Pear and Ocotillo Rooms.  The rangers WILL NOT OPEN them just for us to use the washrooms. We can use those washrooms IF the room is already in use. Be respectful. One at a time!
• Discount cards available from June for Mulqueens $1.00 money goes into our Bank for the Group
• Also Guild Cards to take to Joanns to get a discount card  usual discount is 10%

We would like to thank everyone who helped with QTYW last Thursday night.  It was a great night, thanks to all who helped prep food, baked dessert, did clean up etc, etc.  Also to those who sewed quilts and used their imagination and creativity to put them together for the foster kids of Casa Grande. ACCUQUILT MACHINE TRAINING

Accuquilt Training Dates - Jan 24 @ 8:30 to accommodate those taking the class with Penny & Linda. Regular training - Jan 25, Feb 8, & 22, @ 9:00 prior to meeting.

We would love to have everyone put something in the show.  A quilt, table runner,
pillow. Clothes you have made   Entry forms will be in the sewing room.

Don't forget the Blue Theme challenge have your item ready to enter in the Challenge.

Our Quilt Show Theme is Beyond the Blues. We need small tables/stools/chairs or large vases to cover the quilt rack legs so they are not a tripping hazard. We are also looking for music type paraphenalia...fabric, music books, LPs, music anything! Think about what you might have. We will be soliciting you soon!

A Special Request from one of our Members

Regarding:  Soda/Can Tabs
This is Joanna Garand (Ron) from the sewing room, I'm at site 1370 Coyote moon, I'm usually there in the sewing room by now.

Our 10 year old Granddaughter Natalie, has Rasmussen Encephalitis, some of you may remember me talking about her last season.  She has had 2 brain surgeries, at Lurie's children hospital in Chicago.  With the end result of them having to remove the whole right side of the brain.  She has a very long road of recovery ahead of her.  Natalie has been living at the Ronald McDonald House in Chicago, so she can continue with therapy at the Shirley Ryan ability Center, with our Daughter Jennifer, her mom, who had to leave her job to be with Natalie 24/7.  Since her last surgery in August, she is now walking with a cane, braces on both of her legs, brace on her left shoulder & torso.  Which to us is wonderful, since she couldn't walk, couldn't move her left side, couldn't even smile, had too have help with dressing & the bathroom.  She has too have speech, physical, occupational therapy, & tutoring for school.

We are asking you if you could Please save all their pull tabs form pop, soup, & beer cans. We're collecting them for the Ronald McDonald house in Chicago for all they have done for our family.  They have not asked them too pay anything while they have been staying with them.  They have provided everything our children could ask for or need. So this is a way we would love to help them back. We  would be happy to pick them up or they could drop them off if they would like at our site 1370 Coyote Moon.

We appreciate it very much. We Looking forward to arriving in Palm Creek. Thank you Again.

Updates

Finally the windy weather cooperated and Don had the opportunity to do some drone work.

Did you know our lunch program is up and running now thanks to the new kitchen??

Sandwiches, salads, and/or soup is usually available starting at 11:00.

Just go to the kitchen window inside the ballroom to place your order.

Nice tables and chairs with very comfortable indoor seating is always available.

We're also delighted that the mobile kitchen is now GONE and we have our parking space available again.  Yahoo!!

The park is filling up.  Wednesday night poker was filled to capacity.  The maximum seating was 90 people so they had to turn the last six players away due to lack of space.

Cancer Awareness Weekend is rapidly approaching:

The front foyer of the admin building is getting decorated for the big Cancer Awareness weekend with the hot air balloon show.

YOUR HELP NEEDED:

Looking for folks to volunteer to help out with the ten balloons we will have glowing in Palm Park on Friday evening, February 02 to kick off our annual Cancer Awareness Weekend events.

Folks need to sign up on the board in the activities center (meal counts as well as to know we have enough volunteers for all concerned).

Volunteers will meet at the Santan room for diner at 5pm that evening, followed by crew assignments and a short briefing.  

The glow will be from approximately 6:30 - 7:30PM, and should be wrapped up by 8PM or so.

John Ross will be Tethering his balloon off to the side in the gravel again this year as it is a most excellent way to see the park all lit up and glowing from 80 feet up.  $20 per person for that opportunity. All funds to be donated.

For those that wish to assist on Saturday morning, we will have a few balloons flying paid passengers to add to our fundraising efforts.

 Our library is hardly ever empty.  It's a busy place day after day.  Thank you to the volunteers who keep it nice and neat by re-shelving the many donated books!

Monday night bingo was booming with people.  Congratulations to all winners!

Don and I had a fun experience this week as we were asked to participate in a video interview by Sun Communities social media company.  They are making a lifestyle video to highlight all that Palm Creek has to offer – the many clubs and activities, different sports, beautiful trees and flowers, wonderful homes and RV sites, and of course the amazing people that live here!

Line dancers are happy to have a section of the ballroom for their classes now.

And yes......Mouse and Kat still keep me company while I work at my desk.  The trick is to keep them from walking across the keyboard!!

Drone News

Whoa!!  Too windy to drone these last two days.  The flags are whipping in the wind.

We have had quite a few people stop us to say they are fascinated by the drone videos and would like to hear more of how it is done so Don is going to make a presentation to the computer club on Wednesday, January 31.  Come to the SanTan room at 9:30 that day to hear his presentation and demonstration.  Your attendance is welcomed.

Casino Night Sold Out

Evidently Casino Night is very popular.  Current status is SOLD OUT.  

But the good news is that the dance in the ballroom with DJ Smith and his band is still available.  So even though gambling is out of the question now.....you can still come dance the night away in the Ballroom at 6:30 for $12.  

Casino Night and Orange Sales

Hurry to get your tickets for the Casino Night being held this Saturday, January 20, in our new ballroom.  Gambling starts at 5:00 with poker, blackjack tables, slot machines, and a video poker machine.  Dinner will consist of a shrimp basket.

Our regular Saturday night dance begins at 6:30 and features DJ Smith and the Midnight Sun band.  This band plays music from all eras and does a great job.  

Tickets are $20 for gambling, dinner, AND the dance.  The dance itself is $12 per person.  Alcohol will be sold at this event so no BYOB please.

Watch for the pickup truck that parks near the main mailbox area on Tuesdays and Fridays.  They sell bags of delicious oranges for about $6.00.
