blog info

I've received quite a few questions/suggestions from avid readers so thought I'd make a special posting regarding them.

Several folks would like a place to post some information on a more personal nature about our residents.  Palm Creek has become a large "family" for many of us and it's hard to communicate a message to so many friends.  I walk a fine line with this blog because of the varied audience who reads it.  Sooooo.....in an effort to accommodate, I created a page called "Notes from Residents".  The page is located directly below the palm tree pictures at the top of the blog.  Just click on it to see what your neighbors have to say. 

I'd like to call attention to the search box at the top of the blog.  That small white box is the perfect place to type in when searching for specific information that has been posted in the past.

How frequently do I post something new??  Answer:  Whenever I have time and the inclination.  If you get tired of going to the blog and finding nothing new, there is a special feature at the top right of the blog where you can enter your email address.  Then you will receive a notification whenever something new is added.

Further down the right hand side is a list of links you can click on to take you to other informative sites for Palm Creek.  Be sure to look through the long list of clubs and activities who post to their own blog.

Further down again is the "Blog Archive" where you can click to search back through the years of postings since the blog started in 2006.

 

At the bottom, there is a box called "blog statistics" if you want to see how many people check the blog on a daily basis.  Just click where it says "View Site Stats".  That site has been accumulating stats since August of 2011. 



 

I've heard over and over again how much the blog is appreciated and folks keep suggesting that I charge a subscription fee to compensate for all the time it requires.  I really don't want to do that!  So to wrap this up, I thank you one and all for your kind words about the blog.  Enjoy!



Remodeling & Work Photos

The first thing I saw when I drove up front today were these two trucks from a refrigerator supply company.

 

That meant the new walk-in refrigerator must be here.  I had no idea that the thing would come with "some assembly required". 

 

 

These guys have obviously done this before as they knew exactly how each piece should fit.

 

 

Here comes the door panel.  I'm supposed to tell Marilyn Goeken that "yes, the door has a window" as requested.

 

 

All in a day's work.

 

 

The bulletin board in front of the admin building is decorated with all kinds of pretty posters advertising upcoming events. 

 

 

New storage cabinets are being installed in Activities.  Counter tops should be arriving soon.

 

 

Spotted Avis Gray on her way out to the mailboxes.  Someone has to stuff our boxes full of all the upcoming election propaganda. 

 

 

We made Lillie Corbitt give her hubby, Hank, a big kiss for his birthday.

Happy Birthday, Hank!!  We won't tell anyone you're another year older.  :)

 

 

Elsewhere along the route, the landscape crew is busy as ever with trimming and cleaning the grounds. 

 

 

We got to chat briefly with Fernando and Pedro.  Pedro does a lot of the mowing on the golf course.  Nice to meet you, Pedro!

 

 

 

Oh my gosh!  Here's a nasty chore.  How about transplanting a huge barrel cactus for one of our residents.  OUCH!

 

 

Correction.  Originally, I posted that this new storage building was for pickleball equipment, but I've since learned that it is storage for the snack shack.

 

 

 

It was a pretty view of the mountains and clouds in the distance.

 

 

 If you heard the national weather report and photos of all the flooding up north in the Phoenix area, there's no worry here.  We only had some very light rain.

Pottery and Glass Shop Update

It was less than 100 degrees this afternoon so took the time to wander around a bit.  Stopped in to say hello to the Pottery room again.

The Glass Shop was occupied too.  Gym Flader showed me the progress on their new storage area and their new kiln.

Quiet Day, quail

We walked all around the front offices today looking for some construction photos for you but they all look the same.  Just more painting and electrical work being done so no exciting action shots to send you.

 

We had a lovely storm last night though so I took a picture of a puddle we found on the street as we drove around.  Isn't that exciting??  We don't see puddles very often unless they're from a sprinkler line leak but this one is authentic and is from the rain we had.  It was only .04 of an inch according to our new high tech weather station, but every drop counts when you live in a desert.

 

 Since it was so quiet, you get another sky picture.  Pretty, huh?

 

Our landscaping crew planted a whole line of oleanders behind the stage in palm park.  By the time you return, they'll be growing strong and probably be in flower.

 

 

 

Awwww......check this out.  Kent and Leslie Evans at 1769 sent these photos.  Mama quail has been roosting on their patio at night for the last couple days....with three adorable chicks under her wing.

Wine & Pizza Party

Wow............only four days since my last posting and the complaints come rolling in that I don't write often enough.  It's actually a nice compliment that folks look forward to the blog....and your "complaints" keep me motivated. 

Audrey Combs sent me this awesome photo of the quail lined up on the roof at the home of Wendell and Bev Hoffmann.  Thanks, Audrey.  Don and I come across a sizeable covey of quail quite often during the early morning when we're out on our rounds but they're really fast so pictures are rare.  One day we saw Mom and Dad quail with a whole bunch of little powder puff babies scooting along.  They weren't about to stop and pose though.  It's always a treat to see them.

 

The landscape crew was busy last week with the never ending chore of replacing and repairing irrigation lines.  They did a LOT of work around the pond by #9.

 

 

The yards along the pond looked like giant moles had been digging their way through.

 

 

By the time you return, you'll never know the work was done ... and the irrigation will be working just fine.  So much labor and money is required to keep our resort as beautiful as it is.  This is truly our "rent money" at work for us.

 

 

Thursday we had a fun wine and pizza event for the summer residents.  Nathan Hunter from National Pizza Parties was our host.  A nice wine selection was also available.

 

We had all kinds of choices for what we wanted on our pizza....plus a yummy salad on the side................and.......of course, delicious cake for dessert! 

 

 

 
 

 

 

Nathan mentioned that he can also present a party for custom omelets.  It sounded interesting so I requested one of his business cards and later looked it up at their website.  Very interesting business concept.  Here's an excerpt:

 

"National Pizza Parties started out as Pizza City in 1984. Situated near the University of Arizona in Tucson. David and Karen Peterson were determined to turn a small campus pizza shop into a powerhouse of delivery, catering and in-shop business. Within 2 years Pizza City had tripled revenue but was continually frustrated trying to successfully deliver orders of 20+ pizzas and provide the finest quality. Thus was born the "made at the party" pizza delivery company named "Tucson's Finest Pizzas".
