Tennis Center Activity

The tennis club is rekindling interest in their sport.  Yesterday they had a luncheon and showed off their new banner announcing the official Tennis Center now that all the courts have been returned to tennis.  An unusual (but welcomed) rainy day kept the activities indoors.  When you live in the desert, we never complain about much needed rain.  Our spirits and friendship were still shining.

President, Kate Perrie, thanked all the committee members for organizing the luncheon and introduced many of the volunteers and committee chairman that make the active club possible.

Then came the unveiling of the new Tennis Center banner.

Today Glen Arnold and Wayne Black got the honors of hanging the new banner.

Luckily Jerry Anderson was on hand to supervise.

Don't worry, Gwen....they just posed for the photo and they knew what they were doing.

Success!

Ho Ho Ho

Ho Ho Ho......when out on the patio there arose such a clatter, I flew from my lounge chair to see what was the matter.  When what to my wondering eyes should appear but six golf carts of singles out spreading good cheer.  They sang us a jingle, then drove down the street to spread Christmas wishes to others they'd meet.

Thank you to the Singles Club carolers for a moment of Christmas cheer.  That was FUN!

Hi Larry!

Speaking of fun and good cheer......I attended my very first Stretchers class this morning.  I certainly didn't realize I could work up a sweat by sitting on a chair and exercising.   It felt good to stretch out those stiff muscles and loosen up tight joints.  Thank you to Rita Mullins....our fearless leader... for conducting these sessions.  I shall return for more....but will choose a lighter set of weights!

Marilyn Roemer starts the morning with a bit of good humor.  She must have some jokes and stories she saved from all those bingo bus trips she chaperoned.

Loralee Dehner stopped over this afternoon to learn how to make a poster.  She is part of the water aerobics group and they're going to do a benefit for cancer.  The idea was hatched when the group laughed over the sign at the north pool that reads Capacity 400+ people.  HA!  Now the challenge is to see how many swimmers the pool can handle.

Stop up at the north pool at 11:00 on Thursday, January 31 and let's see how many people will actually fit in the pool at one time.  $2 per participant will be donated to the cancer drive.  Someone be sure to remind me to be there with camera in hand.

While we play, others are at work continuing to beautify our park.  We found these friendly gents busy laying a brick sidewalk.  Wave hi and say Howdy.

Craft Fair Day

It was a little chilly outside this morning so most folks donned a light jacket.  We still had plenty of beautiful clear sky and sunshine.....and good spirits, friendship, and FUN.

Cool temps didn't keep the water volleyball enthusiasts from playing.  They had a great time anyway.  Click on this link to watch a short video.

Water Volleyball Video

The new shuffleboard courts work very well.  The only complaint I heard is that their aim happens to be a little "off" but I don't think they can blame the courts.

Say Howdy to the folks back home.

The second Tuesday of each month we all head up to the big craft fair.  Here's jubulant Tracey Madison again as she tries on the latest fashion in crazy hats.  Looks like it is a perfect fit for her fun loving personality.

Doug and Mona Conkle were busy at work assuring everything was on time and running smoothly.  We always look important when we carry a clipboard.  Makes us look professional.  (Cute hat Mona!)

There was a nice crowd as shoppers poured over the merchandise.  Carolyn Stone has a booth where she sells her quilting and sewing handiwork.  Her cloth children's books are just awesome.

I called out her name and certainly attracted everyone's attention.

The Lions Club is sponsoring a DUCK RACE.  Yup.  A duck race.  Buy one of these cute little plastic ducks and you become the proud sponsor of a racing duck.  At a date to be announced later, they'll release these little critters in Palm Creek waterway and away they'll go.  The ducks are numbered on the bottom so we'll know who the lucky winners are.  Watch for future announcements.

Actually.....the lucky winners will be the therapy dogs that are sponsored by the Lions Club.  I forgot this fella's name but he is in training as a therapy dog and visits hospitals and nursing homes to visit the patients and bring a smile to their faces.  Sounds like a very worthy cause......I bought two and will definitely be on hand to photograph the winners.

Inside the ballroom were MANY shoppers.  I only took one photo inside, but it is worthy of the space.  What beautiful workmanship.  I wish the sewing group would start a blog to show off all the beautiful projects they create.  They do so much for charities as well.

Meanwhile....back in the kitchen....Marilyn Goeken and Pat Mitchel were hard at work making lunch for everyone.  Thank you to the whole staff for a great meal.  It is so nice to get a lunch here and then join friends out on the pretty patio by the pool.

The Rumor is True this time

The ever circulating rumor that the park is going to be sold has finally become true.  We received a letter in our mailboxes this morning and I copied this from the Palm Creek Facebook page so we know it to be fact.

Ashton Wolfswinkel announces transfer of ownership of Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort to Sun Communities, a Michigan based company. Read Ashton's letter to all Palm Creek residents. We wish Ashton and his family the best in the New Year.

Ashton says in his letter to Palm Creek Staff and Residents:

To all of our Residents, Guests, Friends and Family:
On behalf of the Wolfswinkel family, I would l like to announce that we are in contract with Sun Communities of Southfield, Michigan to sell our interest in Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort. We believe that this is not only the best interest of our family, but for the benefit of our Residents, Guests and the community as a whole.

Palm Creek started as a dream of my father, Conley, and has become one of the premier RV and mobile home communities in the United States. Through his vision, the hard work and dedication of many long-time staff members, countless volunteers and the patronage of our Residents and Guests over the past 13+ years, Palm Creek has continued to grow into a community that we as owners have been very proud of. I also believe this same pride and sense of community is felt deeply by our Residents and Guests.

The management team of the past few years, lead by Wendell, Debbie, Gary, Val, Diane, Marilyn, Linda, Roger, Dora, Ann and the more recent editions of Fernando and Jim Dawson on a full-time basis is, in my opinion the best management team we have ever had and the property looks the best it has since my involvement some 10 years ago. The entire management team and staff will continue to serve our residents and run the property in the same fashion as it has always been, with a commitment to excellence. Sun Communities is run by a group of high quality individuals and they are committed to working to keep Palm Creek the amazing place it has become. I feel confident and am very comfortable knowing that Palm Creek will be in good hands, and will build on the legacy that we have all been blessed to be a part of.

Thank you all for so many great memories, for your support, and for your love and commitment to this place we call Palm Creek - which would only be a group of buildings with some grass to mow, streets to drive on and pads to park on - but with all of you, you have made this place a community like no other. I am thankful, blessed and just plain lucky to have been a part of this for such an influential part of my life.

Thank you and my best wishes to all.

Ashton Wolfswinkel

Another Day of Perfect Weather

Uh Oh...........if you look at the next five day weather forecast, you'll see some nighttime freezing temperatures!  It's certainly hard to believe today because our PERFECT weather continues with lots of sunshine.  Fernando has already scheduled the landscape crew to be ready to cover all the flowers Sunday night because of the forecasted freeze warning.  Guess we'd better haul out those blankets and frost covers to protect the tender flowers.
Out on Henness Road, new signs have been posted and the new right turn lane is activated.  This should make it easier to swing those big rigs in here.

I found Fernando working on the sprinkler heads so nagged at him to be in this photo.  He politely relented but went right back to his chores.

Our entrance drive always looks nice.

We're also lucky to have such friendly greeters.  Today Don Johnson and Linda Berry were on duty.

A good friend, Cheri Norsted, is a devoted grandparent.  She and Grandpa Ray spent the afternoon taking photos for a Flat Stanley project for their Granddaughter Jenna.  Most grandparents probably know the saga of flat Stanley as he has become a classic project for elementary classes.

The new trend appears even higher tech as this cutout is actually a flat Jenna that comes with velcro clothes that get changed for each occasion.

This afternoon I spied a couple deadheaders hard at work to keep our resort so beautiful.  The "deadheaders" are a devoted group of volunteers who help maintain our colorful flower beds.  The group members are easy to spot because of their colorful shirts.  Should you meet them, stop to give a friendly hello and a thank you for the work they perform.

How cool to see this Christmas tree out at the pickleball courts.  I think it came from the float.

This bulletin board tells quite a story about our active pickleball organization.  There are many many different groups, levels of play, round robins, tournaments, and special events coming up.

It's always fun to stop for a while and watch the action on the new courts.

Back at the tennis area, I was lucky enough to watch the final installation process of converting the courts.  They pulled up all the tape from painting the white lines...and then laid out the nets.

TA DA..........net now in place.

I caught Anna Maria and her partner in an active game.

It is so FUN to meet new people.  Say hello to Traci Madison (staying in site 180).  Traci brought me a new OWL!!!!  She gave him to me as a gift in appreciation for the blog.  Awesome!!  Traci is a Voice Recorder and recently landed the job to be the voice for 50 children's book for a company in Sweden.  What a fun job!  You can hear a sample at her website:  www.tracimadisonvoice.com   Once at the website, click on the video for children's books.

While she was here she took a look at some of Don's computer toys at his flight simulator.

Our softball teams are very active too.  We finally got part of their schedule posted so you know when to come out to the field and watch the games.  You can go to their blog site.  Click on:  Palm Creek Blogs and then choose Palm Creek Softball.
