Upcoming Quilt & Woodshop Events

 I saw the cutest items at Bingo last night but I was selling tickets at the time so couldn't chase the ladies down that had the bears.  I texted my friend Mary to get me some photos so I could show you the items.

One is an adorable BINGO bear and the other is all in Pickleball fabric.  The bears will be in the silent auction for the Quilt show this coming Saturday.

CanAm Week

 It has certainly been a FUN week with all the CanAm tournaments and activities around the park.  I have a few photos to post.  The poker tournament was quite something.  It started at 4:00 in the afternoon when almost 80 American players battled it out to make it to the CanAm competition.  Then the winning 40 played against the ~40 Canadians until they whittled down to the final table.  Through the excitement....Canada won the top spot.  

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the two softball games on Saturday.  I so admire the players who can get out there and hit a ball so far, throw it back from the outfield, AND RUN.  It's a great accomplishment at our ages.  😉

The area high school band marched on to the field for the national anthems and there were plenty of other antics going on during both games.  FUN to watch and cheer.  Canada won the C league and American won the B league.  Congratulations to all.

Closing Ceremony was held Sunday afternoon capping off a GREAT week of fun activity.  There was a great lively band with hot dogs and burgers being available.  LOTS of friendly camaraderie and BEAUTIFUL SUNSHINE.  We've had outstanding beautiful weather all week long and it looks like it will continue as well.

I was walking across the golf course this afternoon and noticed the fish at the north end of the main lake.  They love to gather there when the canal is running fresh water.  Must be some nice fresh oxygen for them.  It's not the best of photos, but watch for the fish action as you pass by.

We've had a lot of entertainment this season...especially with the addition of the Wednesday night karaoke up at the Bistro.  It always draws a nice crowd.

On my walk around the block, I noticed this cute display at site 1722.  I'm going to guess that the residents are from Canada??

And...of course...no blog entry is complete unless it includes photos of Scooter and Kat.  They actually remind me of the old cartoon strip of Dennis the Menace.  Scooter is, of course, Dennis...while Kat is definitely Mr. Wilson who barely tolerates Dennis as a nuisance.  Occasionally, however, they cuddle up and forgive each other.  😸😺

 We've had some BIG Bingo jackpots these last few weeks.  Last Monday Madonna Bolin won $581.

We've had over 250 players.  Here's our "daubers up" salute.

Each game pays out over $100 to a lucky winner.

Tickets go on sale at 6:00.  Game starts at 7:00.

Connie Barretto from Idaho won over $870 last night!

I'm not sure, but I think the coyote statues were supposed to deter the ducks??  I couldn't resist this photo this morning.

One of the TNR cats that have been released back into the park has taken a liking to our Scooter.  She frequently comes to visit him.

 Just a quick reminder about our iPhone and iPad classes coming up the next two Saturdays.

Early February Events

 Congratulations to Barbie Patrick!  She won $724 by completing the black out card with only 55 numbers at Bingo last night.  We had an excellent crowd with over 250 players making every game payout at $100.  It was a good night!

If you weren't at the ballfield on Sunday, you missed some FUN softball games between our local Palm Creek teams and the Firefighters.

Our weather was awesome today so I enjoyed a nice long walk.  One of my favorite resting spots is the bench at the end of the 18th hole.

There are MANY ducks around but this drake was perfectly resting in a nice sunny spot.

I wish there were more benches along the route...especially near the north end of the main lake where we could watch the ducks and water fountains.

Of course, Scooter likes his photo taken too.

He loves to climb into any kind of bag or box.

I'm happy to report that our little white feral cat named "Casper" now returns occasionally to say hello.  I have no idea where she spends her days and nights.  We've tried to coax her inside to no avail.  

I was asked to please post info about the upcoming Washington State Party.  We know there are a lot of Washington residents in the park so want to be sure to reach them about the party.

Have you seen this little feral cat??  She used to come visit us every day to play with Scooter.  Haven't seen her all week and am concerned. (We call her Casper).  

She is one of the treated cats from our TNR program as evidenced by the clipped ear on her left side.

More About Cats

 The TNR Fundraiser was a lovely success!  Over $4100 was raised so the team will definitely be out tracking any newborn kittens that are encountered.  After a cat has been through the process, the vet will clip the tip of the left ear so the cat can be recognized.

There are residents who do not like any feral animals in their yard.  If this is the case:

Remove Shelter: Cats seek out places to hide and rest. Trim bushes, close off spaces under decks or sheds, and remove any piles of debris.   

Rough Surfaces: Cats dislike walking on rough surfaces. Consider using pine cones, pebbles, or plastic sheeting with nubs in areas they frequent.

Citrus Scents: Cats dislike citrus smells. Place orange or lemon peels around your yard or use citrus-scented sprays. 

Plant Cat-Repelling Plants: Some plants like Coleus canina (commonly called "Scaredy Cat" plant), rue, lavender, and rosemary are known to deter cats.

Feral cats can minimize rodent problems and are a “green” alternative to pest control. Feral cats keep their populations in check and discourage new rodents from moving into the area.  
An established, vaccinated, and sterilized colony of feral cats will deter other stray and feral cats from moving into the area. This actually decreases the chances that people will encounter an unvaccinated cat, and will virtually eliminate problem behaviors like fighting, yowling, spraying and roaming.

Of the four kittens that were trapped at our site, only one keeps returning. Casper is Scooter's girlfriend as she keeps coming to visit. They play together through the outdoor condo we have and Casper comes to the window to say hello. She won't come in the house and she won't let us touch or pet her, but she is certainly adorable.

We spotted a coyote on the golf course today!  Lots of folks are surprised at first glance till they realize it is a decoy.  Do you think it will scare away the ducks??
