Menu & Firemen Dinner

The Firemen's Spaghetti dinner was another sellout event with 400 people being served.  This event draws a great crowd every year just to honor our local Fire Department and the wonderful service they provide to Palm Creek.  I joked with them a bit about how often they respond to our park.

They have a very talented bagpipe player who leads off the evening.

They sell raffle tickets for some nice prizes plus a 50-50 raffle.  Many residents buy tickets as another way to support the department.  The 50-50 drawing is a huge success with the final tally being $2000.  One lucky winner wins half of that amount.  That lucky winner this year was Joan Kaiser and she graciously donated her winnings back to the Fire Department.  That was a wonderful generous gesture on her part.  Three cheers for Joan.

They have a cute event where one of our residents competes against a young recruit to see who can don their rapid response equipment the fastest.  Guess who wins.  😉

Hats off to Chef and crew!!  Our meals were served as fast as possible to such a huge crowd and the spaghetti was the best ever served at this event.  Yum!!

Yes, the iPhone class I've been promising is now on schedule for Saturday, February 3 at 9:30 a.m. in Sonora South.  We'll start with basics but have plenty of newer tips to keep you interested.  I recently bought a new projector for use in the classes so am asking for a $5 donation to keep me motivated.  I enjoy sharing tips and tricks with other iPhone users.  There is always something new to learn about these magical instruments we carry in our pockets.  No need to sign up anywhere...just come to join us.

Menu & Class Schedule

Hallelujah!  I declare Don and I both back to good health without the croup.  I can finally get out of the house again so attended bingo last night.  I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people there who were brave enough to go out in the rain.  I can understand why as the jackpots were over $90 per game.  Both big jackpots were won last night so one player went home with over $400 and one who got the blackout game with only 52 numbers won over $600.  Nice!

It was fun to see the serving window open now.  We could purchase fresh popcorn, soda, and fresh cookies from the Bistro.  There seemed to be quite a line so folks enjoyed the service.

Gabby Gonzales was helping Deb with service at the window.  Congratulations to Gabby as she has officially been named as the new General Manager for Palm Creek.

I'm back on track now so will be holding the iPhone class that I had scheduled.  We're set for Saturday, February 3, at 9:30 a.m. in Sonora South with a second session set for Saturday, February 10.  The first class will start with a lot of basics about using the phone.  The second session will be a review +++ with new items I've picked up along my studies.  I'm asking for a $5 donation for each class as I bought myself a new projector to make the class easier.

I find it fun to teach and help people keep up with the new technology.  We all have our hobbies be they golf, pottery, cards, etc so mine is my phone.  I find it fun, fascinating and entertaining.  I even do one on one classes for those who want extra help.  There is a sign up sheet in Activities to let me know there will be some in attendance.

Bistro Menu & Class Canceled

Here's this week's menu for the Bistro:

I have to cancel the iPhone class for this coming Saturday....again.  I'm feeling better but this nagging cough lingers on.  I can't talk much without coughing and the cough sounds ugly.  I also don't want to take any chance of spreading this cold to someone else so I'll stay home another week and sharpen my computer game skills.  Maybe I'll scout YouTube and TikTok to find more tips for the upcoming class.

I do plan on Saturday, February 3, 9:30 a.m. in Sonora South!!

Bistro Menu & Class Cancelation

Thank you to Barb Poole for sending me this week's menu for posting.

Don and I are both still down with this ugly crud of a cold.
Severe sore throat and heavily congested cough!!  It's UGLY!!  Doctor said it is viral so antibiotics don't help.  Just continue with Mucinex, Flonase and Tylenol and expect it to last about three weeks.  THREE WEEKS!    That means I'd better cancel my January 13 iPhone class.  I should be back up for the Jan 20th.....I hope so anyway.

Therefore, January 13 class is officially cancelled.

Weekly Bistro Menu

Here you go folks!  Today is my favorite day for Chicken Enchilada Soup.  Delicious.

Don't forget about the yummy food over at the Takeaway Cafe at the ballfield.

Kathy Payne is ready to serve you at the Sidebar as well.

I wasn't up at sunrise this morning but I was yesterday!  Look at this beautiful sky!!  There is no photoshop in there either...that is all mother Nature at her best.

Kat and Mouse still enjoy their cat condo and spend quite a bit of time outdoors.

The new year is starting off a little slow for Don and I as we are both down with the sore throat and chest congestion CRUD.  Ugly stuff.  If you are sick, stay home so as not to spread it to neighbors or friends.

Sure hope I'm healthy enough for my iPhone class scheduled for January 13.

By popular request, I'm going to conduct a couple iPhone classes again this season.  First ones are coming soon.

Saturdays:  January 13 and again on January 20 at 9:00 a.m. in Sonora South

I bought a new projector so am asking for $5 per person for the classes.  Classes will benefit both newcomers, rookies, and long-term users as there is always something new to learn.  Signup sheets will be posted in Activities.

Christmas Parade

We held the annual golf cart Christmas parade yesterday under a warm sunny sky.  Congratulations to our Activities Department or whoever was watching the weather and moved the parade to Thursday instead of this Friday.  Today is cold at 54 with some nice heavy rain.

Bill DeBoard did a nice job of videoing the parade.  Here is a link to his four-minute video he posted.

Grand Marshal Flo Phillipi rode with Santa Claus!

Christmas Parade

We grabbed a couple still shots as the revelers passed by.  It was fun to gather friends and neighbors to sit on the corner and cheer for the participants.

Our friend, Janet Hoppe, gifted us a Christmas tree so Kat and Mouse could celebrate the holidays too.  I'm surprised and delighted to report that it is still standing.  😀

P.S.  Thank you to one and all for your Christmas cards, email letters, and text notes.  We love hearing from readers.  (especially those of you who can't be with us this season).....and those who went home for the holidays.  Most recently:  Dale and Bernice Merschman

 This week's Bistro Menu

Don't forget the Christmas Parade this Friday starting at 4:30.  Even if you are not participating in the parade, be outside with friends and neighbors to cheer for the parade.

Correction about the card rooms:  Cathy from Activities schedules the rooms and said the Adobe room will be open for cards on both Dec 25 and Jan 1.  Swoop games will be available for those who want to play.

25th Palm Creek Anniversary

The park celebrated its 25th anniversary this past Wednesday.  It started with Gabby Gonzales reading a prepared speech and then turning the mic over to Marguarite Roule who briefly interviewed each of the 10 original pioneers who still reside or visit Palm Creek.  It was fun to hear their stories of favorite or memorable events they experienced here.

Then we viewed a short photo presentation from year's past.  It was nice to see familiar faces.

Following the show, we were invited to cake and coffee in the Santan room which was fully decorated for the celebration.  Our staff worked hard and diligently for a great display.

The centerpiece was this great cake with little palm trees.

To share cake with over 700 people, our kitchen staff created all these individual decorated dishes for distribution.  Very creative!

Each of the "Pioneers" who were here in 1998 were given a nice acrylic plaque for their part in the celebration.

HOLIDAY NEWS

Just a reminder that all PC offices will be closed on Monday December 25 and again on Monday January 1.  Because of the holidays there will be no Bingo on those days plus all card rooms will be closed for private parties.

Letter from Fire Chief & Blog News

After the recent motorhome fire here in Palm Creek, we all received this letter from the Fire Chief.

Whenever there is an alarm or occurrence of any kind, we all want to know if there is anything we can do to help a friend or neighbor.  This letter reminds everyone to stay clear when fire or ambulance is in the area.

Christmas is in the air.  We've kicked off the season with the lovely Chorus Concert.  We've also had shopping opportunities via the Artisan Craft Fair plus we have the Marketplace event tomorrow and a patio sale on Saturday.  Next Friday will be the Christmas Parade so get your golf cart or bike decorations ready.

*******************

Our daily temperatures definitely reflect that winter is upon us.  Don and I still enjoy our morning coffee hour together but we are in the kitchen instead of out on the patio!  Brrrr.  Mornings are chilly but afternoons warm up to the 70s for everyone to enjoy the Arizona sunshine.

Kat keeps us company but cuddles up to the heat register as much as possible.

Chorus Concert & Motorhome Fire

Congratulations to our Palm Creek Chorus for a GREAT presentation Thursday evening.  All those hours of practice paid off and provided a delightful evening for the HUGE audience.  So many talented people reside here.

Pianist Louise Gross provided wonderful support.  Somewhere....her past piano teacher would have been very proud.

OMG!  911 true emergency!  We first noticed the event when the fire trucks came zooming past our house going very fast with sirens, horns, and flashing lights.  That is very rare as sirens are normally turned off when they enter the property.  This was a definite exception and rightly so.

Smoke was rising from a site on Windy Cliff.

There was wonderful professional response from the CG Fire Department.

I believe we saw no less than five trucks at the scene.  Hoses were hooked to a nearby fire hydrant to fight the flames.

The fire was at a beautiful Tiffin motorhome located at site 1537.  Luckily the occupants and their dogs escaped safe and unharmed.  They are currently staying in a park rental home for recovery.  The park, friends and neighbors have donated some clothing and other items to assist them.
