2014 Memories

I'm holding an iPhone class for some of our summer residents this afternoon.  While I was surfing my computer for some ideas, I stumbled on some 2014 memories so thought I'd make a short presentation from that year.

Expansion of the Bistro
Remember Faustino and Fernando?

July 17, 2014 Dust Storm (Haboob)
Could barely see across the street
New table tops installed on the pool tables

Opening Day at Sam's Club.
Line was wrapped around the building waiting to enter.
Bistro construction continues (June 2014)
Library and other offices were remodeled

We had fun with the wii equipment installed in the Adobe room for summer fun.
(Actually....I wish I still had our set as it was so much fun.)
Lots of storm damage after several haboobs that year.

All offices were remodeled
LOL....it was time to delete the phone lines we used to have in homes throughout the park
Dust storms are frequent in summer
I remember the frisbee tournament that was held on the golf course.  I think it was some traveling frisbee association.  Certainly fun to watch.

A highlight for me is when Chris Guld with the "Geeks on Tour" was here for a visit and held classes for us.  I've been a fan of hers for years.

Have a GREAT day and stay cool.

Heat Report

We don't see many clouds during Arizona summer so had to share our beautiful sunrise from this morning.  It was about 5:30 when I came outside for our morning coffee.  Beautiful sky and only 86 degrees.  I miss the nice COOL mornings.

When you get a close look, you can tell that the palm trees are done blooming.  Now they just shed their flower petals.  Help is on the way as the tree trimmers will be around soon.  In the meantime, those of us here utilize brooms and dust pans.  It's just part of living with beautiful palm trees.

A special thank you to the men who keep our pools so nice and clean!

And to the men who face challenges in keeping the grass mowed.

Back to the continuing saga of our ailing air conditioner.  Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.  It's sort of like a teenager I guess.  We're managing to stay in our house at a mostly comfortable temperature thanks to a hard-working dedicated Tri-Cor employee named Sean.

Friday night we watched the temperature go up and up inside the house.  We left a recording at Tri-Cor.  Sure enough, Sean showed up at 6:15a.m. Saturday morning to get us back up and running again.

With that wall behind the house, it certainly doesn't give him much room to work.  It will be interesting to see how they remove the unit and bring in the new one when it arrives.  Will keep you posted.

Again, I want to thank the thoughtful folks who invited us to shelter in their homes if needed.  So far we haven't had to evacuate.  👏👌
There isn't any relief in site for cooler temperatures. Check those morning lows in the upper 80s.  That's definitely why we get up before sunrise to complete outdoor chores.

The heat isn't affecting the cats.  Mouse looks quite content up in his tree.

Our Chef's special this week will be pastrami sandwich & fries.  YUM!

  • Tuesday 1:00 I'll be holding an iPhone class with tricks and techniques.  There should be something new for everyone.  Santan Room.
  • Wednesday 8:30 is the July birthday breakfast.
  • Thursday 1:00 Bingo in Ballroom 3
  • Friday 10:00 Scavenger Hunt (which might be revised due to hot temps outdoors)
Go to the activities office to sign up & get tickets.

Mango, Omelet Breakfast

The afternoon started with the ice cream social consisting of a yummy three layer desert with blueberries, cherries, and strawberries in between the layers of ice cream.  Delicious!

Then we went next door to meet Judy Walters and "Mango".  We heard many heart-warming stories of Mango's life and CAREER as he won the famous reward of Hero Dog of the Year.  He even got to be in some movie clips.  You'll hear the whole story when Mango returns this fall as Judy is going to present a formal show for us.

Mango certainly won over our hearts!  He normally has a wheelchair but can get along just fine without it as well.

This morning we were treated to a wonderful breakfast event of special Omelets.

This photo stolen from Linda Rainer on Nextdoor.  :)

We're trying to talk Chef into making this a Thursday morning tradition!

Say hello to Gregory Von Eubbing who is our new Director of Resort Food and Beverage.

I received a HUGE response from readers regarding our broken air conditioner in our triple digit temperatures.  Thank you to ALL for your heartfelt wishes.  There were even four of our housewatch customers who said: "you already have the keys....just make yourself at home in our house."  How awesome to live in a community like this!

Anyway....our AC machine is limping along.  Most of the time it is working ok but then it hiccups and we start to heat up again.  I think we'll be fine until our new unit arrives within the next week.  We figure it doesn't make sense to pour funds into an 11-year-old unit so we have a new one on order.  I'll keep you posted.

The low temperatures are the worst.  We need our cool mornings so we can spend some time outdoors!

Hepler "Stuff"

AAWWWKKKK!!!  Our air conditioner died during the night last night!!  We've made the emergency call to Tri-Core so we're praying they can get here today.  Wish us luck.

It only cools down to upper 80s during the night.  It was 88 when I got up this morning at 5:30.

Mouse is handling it quite well as he sleeps on his back to keep cool.

I'm lucky today as I will be gone to play bridge this morning, have lunch in the nice cool ballroom cafe, and then go to the ice cream social and visit with special guest "Mango".  Poor Don must stay home in our "warm" house and wait for Tri-Core to get here.

Speaking of Don............someone asked me the other day about how to find copies of his books so thought I'd post a link for you.

While we're talking about personal things, thought I'd share a couple family photos.
I love this pic of the little titmouse that visits my son's feeder.  His cat stays very entertained. 🙀

Our other son, Anton, is spending some indoor time with his art work.  I like this latest piece he's working on.

Here's a link to some of his art:
