weeds, flowers, birds, cats

Crews are out bright and early to beat the heat.  It's lovely in EARLY morning but sure heats up in a hurry once that sun peeks out.  What a lovely difference it makes when the weeds are gone.

Once the crew hand digs the weeds, the spraying trucks move in.

We've been pretty fortunate that pigeons don't take roost on our houses but occasionally one does and they surely make a mess.  Spikes aren't much of a deterrent but this homeowner may have found the secret by tossing lots of cactus in there.  The persistent pigeons have given up and gone elsewhere.

This morning we found 4 pigeon eggs in a pot in front of that same site.  I can't believe a pigeon would sit that close to the ground and so close to the street.  I'm thinking someone just placed the eggs there.  Right???

The baby hummers are ready to launch!

I shouldn't even bother to post my cell phone photos of humming birds.
Look what Tom Gottfried can do with a REAL camera!  He spotted this nest elsewhere in the park.

Now for what Don calls some boring cactus photos.
This tiny little stump of a cactus produced this beautiful blossom.  Quite an accomplishment for just a stump of a plant.

Now that I've been taking Kat outside on his leash, he wants out more often....even in the heat of the afternoon.  The little devil is trying to get the door open on his own.  We keep hearing the twang of the door handle as he reaches for it......even during the night!

Watch this little devil in action.

The dog parks open today so I'll get some fun photos to share.

Dog Parks Will Open May 8.

Dog Parks will open Friday, May 8!!!!!

Just received a note from Scott Houle asking me to help spread the word.  He finally has permission to open the dog parks starting tomorrow (May 8) at 8:00 a.m.

We'll finally have some happy dogs and owners as they watch the furry critters enjoy some exercise.

Owners should please keep the requested 6 foot social distance from each other so no one starts reporting abusers.  We don't want to go through that again.  Enjoy!

Here is a copy of the letter we received in our mailboxes today regarding the status of other amenities:

APS, ducks, doves, a bee, zoom

We had some excitement this morning when APS showed up to install the new light pole on our corner.  I enjoyed watching them take down the old pole a week or so ago but today's show was quite impressive.

First they lifted it off the trailer with their crane.

I was certainly curious to watch how they would swing it around to the corner without banging into the RV parked there.  It was no problem for them.  Went like clock work.  Took a short video for you to watch.  Check it on YouTube:

When the project was finished, I went over to talk to the three men and complimented them on a job well done and thank them for providing my morning entertainment.  LOL  People in this profession certainly come in some tough situations between freezing winter snow storms and blazing summer heat.  We should all salute them.

We enjoyed watching the "wildlife" around the park this morning.  The two baby hummingbirds are standing tall already.  It won't be long till they try their wings.

We found another dedicated mama dove hunkered down in a light fixture.  They are really devoted and seldom fly away but rather stay to protect their eggs.

This mama duck was in the small pond on the 18th hole.

Quick video of the ducks.

Maggiemay posted this cute photo on Nextdoor.

Tom Gottfried has had his camera out again and captured this MAGNIFICENT photo of a bee stirring up the pollen inside of a flower.  Awesome picture!  Thank you, Tom!

I recently participated in an online seminar with the Geeks on Tour regarding blogging.  Chris Guld used my blog for some examples so I was excited and flattered.  Now I want to learn to use ZOOM so we can chat among fellow Palm Creekers.  I practiced with Shirley, Becki, and Linda.

Zoom and Messenger make staying in touch quite easy and fun.  The Geeks have some easy training videos if you want to give it a try.

Meantime, our weather remains HOT.  If this was July, I could understand but typically in May we have low 90s.  We seem to have skipped that stage this year.  At least it still cools into the 60s overnight leaving us with BEAUTIFUL mornings.

Food Truck info, weeds, greens, cats, flute music

Thank you to Mary Hanson and Judy Tawney for entertaining us  and sharing their talent with their flute music!  It was fun entertainment.

Neighbors gathered to watch....all socially distant from each other.

The weed contractor is busy all around the resort.  Now there are crews weeding the over 2000 individual sites.

Our landscapers are plugging the greens.  I guess that's what it's called??  Maybe it's aerating?

No more Food Truck visits to the park.  The one scheduled for tomorrow canceled at the last minute.  Our resident numbers are dwindling rapidly as folks head home.  Maybe these early triple digit temperatures are chasing them away.

Meanwhile, back home.  Mouse is at play.  He LOVES those nice big carry out bags from Olive Garden.  Their Buy One Take One offer feeds us for a whole week.

Kat is resting from his morning outside leash time.

Around the park

Looks like triple digits continue through the upcoming week.

Mama dove has hatched her eggs among the metal spikes.

These look like some kind of petunia.  Google lens says it is Calibrachoa.  They are evergreen short-lived perennials and subshrubs with a sprawling habit with small petunia-type flowers.  Certainly beautiful!  Found them on a corner lot along Cole Circle.

Today is asphalt day for some streets in the park.

Just a pretty stop along our route this morning.

There's not much excitement to write about so we just snapped casual photos of residents out enjoying the cool 66 degree morning.

After Kat's morning walk around the perimeter of our site, he rests in his new cage to watch the birds.  They certainly aren't afraid of him!

I know not everyone subscribes to Nextdoor so I copied a couple lovely photos to post here as well.

Thank you to Richard Schneider for capturing this neat photo of a rainbow emanating from our irrigation line.

Rita & Bill Fordham captured this lovely sunset photo.

You have to admire American humor even in these ugly quarantine times.

P.S.  I heard a rumor that Flute Players will be performing tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. at site 1946.

Keep smiling and enjoy the day!!
