MAHJONG PARTY UPDATE

We had 5-6 tables of players show up for our Friday play at the North Pavilion.  The sun was welcome but the wind was a bit chilly.  The area was all nice and clean for us so we need to thank our busy housekeeping staff next time you see them.

We're back on schedule for our belated Valentine's party this Friday, February 22, in the Sonora Room.  We'll start at 12:00 so set your alarm as a reminder.

BRING:
A finger food treat to share.  If it is a home made item, bring your recipe card so we can copy.  Store bought items are fine. I'm sure there will be plenty of food so it you don't have time, come anyway.

Let's dress in Mahjong colors....red, white, green, black.  It will add to the festivities.

Bring a pen or pencil to write with.  We're going to play a short game that requires writing and I certainly don't have that many pens to supply everyone.  Bring a couple extra for those folks who forget.

Bring your own drinks.  Paper plates, napkins, and paper cups will be provided.

Bring your Mahjong set so we have enough for our newcomers to play also.

AND....please always wear your name tag!!

Hope to see you at the party!!

Singing Valentines

Our Palm Creek Chorus was out in force yesterday when they delivered singing valentines to special friends and neighbors as part of their Cancer Awareness Contribution.  Very creative and FUN idea!  Thank you and congratulations to all.

I wrote to Betty Preston Steel to get some details.  Here's her report:

We (Chorus) wanted to contribute to the Palm Creek cancer awareness weekend, so we sold Singing Valentines. For $10.00 each, a “singing team” of chorus members visited recipient between 3:30 and 5:00 Wednesday, February 13, with several songs, Valentine sweets and a card. Some senders/buyers of the Valentines chose to include their names and some remained “Secret Valentine Friends.”  The idea was that our deliveries would be not only to spouses or Special Ones but also to friends, neighbors, someone who the sender wanted to do a favor for, or just send a singing “hug”.  This year four teams of singers delivered 17 Valentines; recipients included the Activities Office, Guest Services and GM Kevin Flynn, some were to spouses and quite a few were to neighbors and friends. We are hoping next year that our residents consider this is a great way to support the cancer awareness cause and at the same time deliver fun, and a “thank you”, “I care” or “I love you” to anyone in the park. This year Chorus donated $170.00 to the cause and next year we anticipate a big increase as Singing Valentines catch on. Chorus members had SO much fun doing this and we sincerely appreciate the support of our residents for our new project.

Bee Gees Concert

After tonight's hand-clapping, foot-stomping Bee Gees concert, I came home and dialed up some songs to compare the performance with more Bee Gees recordings.  The falsetto voices of the performers tonight were amazing.  I thought it was another great event.

.......and bravo to the drummer!

Meanwhile, back at home, Kat and Mouse were enjoying their new cat tree.

Update to Mahjong Players

Party Day Change

Due to the threat of inclement weather, we've changed our party plans.

Friday, February 15, will be a regular play day at the north pavilion for those willing to play outdoors.  A cancelation will be obvious if it is raining although the pavilion is covered so you can always drive by to see if any of us die-hards are there.

Our party is rescheduled for Friday, February 22, when we have our regular North and South Sonora room reserved.  We can anticipate at least 50 people so I'm sure we will have plenty of food.  Any type of finger food will be welcome.  (Even nutritious stuff like deviled eggs and cut up veggies.)  Feel free to bring a store bought item.    Don't let the food issue keep you away.   Players are still welcome even if they don't bring anything other than their pleasant personality.  (Of course, a special dessert is always appreciated.😀)

May the Jokers be with you.

Mahjong Update

This post is an update to all of our Mahjong players.

CONGRATULATIONS to all who donated items to create our basket for the Cancer Awareness Silent Auction.   We have it on good authority that the basket brought in $175.  That's a GREAT contribution from our small group.

We've started to collect $2.00 from each player so we have a "kitty" fund to pay for supplies and prizes for upcoming group events.  In return, each member gets a dragon sticker to wear on their badge.  The dragon sticker attracts attention and starts conversations about the Mahjong game.  Our FUN and strategy play is attracting attention and bringing more players into the fold.

We're grateful to have both the Sonora North and South rooms on Fridays to accommodate our growing group.  We currently have 12-15 tables each Friday so are grateful for the room.

We plan to have a Valentines Party on Friday, February 15 but found we are ousted from our room due to the set up for the big quilt show that weekend.  Therefore, we're going to move the party outdoors to the north pavillion.  The theme is "Sweets for the Sweets" so bring your favorite sweet treats to share....plus a recipe if it is a homemade item.  With your recipe on display, members can take a photo to copy the recipe.

The weather man is threatening clouds and possible rain for the party day so stay tuned to this blog and Nextdoor for last minute cancellations if necessary.  We WILL have a party but it may not be on that day if weather doesn't allow.

That's the news for now.  Have fun and may the jokers be with you.

Vultures

Saw this article in the Dispatch this morning.  I'll have to get out to Safeway to see for myself.  Awesome sight!

P.S.  I'm glad they didn't choose Palm Creek for their residence!

Folks are complaining that they haven't seen pics of Kat and Mouse lately.  Yes, they're still here.  Regardless of the outside temperature, I must keep the window open when I sit at my desk

Cancer Awareness Weekend

Just a few photos of the parade and the Friday night balloon glow to remind us of how much fun we have.
Andrea from Amazing Dental along with Marion Nelson served as our Grand Marshall for the parade.

We gathered at night to watch the balloon glow and have our chili, cookies, and hot chocolate while chatting with many friends.  The event was very well attended.

Our Mahjong group organized a donation basket.  We gathered enough items to make a lovely basket of goodies.

Welcome Party

The weather was ideal for our welcome back party today.  Actually, it should just be named a "Welcome" party as we met soooo many brand new and first time guests.  It's interesting to chat with these newbies and see how impressed they are with all the clubs and activities Palm Creek has to keep them entertained.  Many many guests and residents spent the whole afternoon enjoying the event.

This year the food wagons came so we definitely had a variety to choose from for lunch.

A very talented mariachi band roamed among the crowd to add to the festivities.  I think they were a better alternative than a big loud band on the stage because it would have been hard for all of us working in the booths to converse with the people that stopped by to chat.

Most of the clubs had tables set up to inform folks of all our fun events.  Our Mahjong table with the Pegs & Jokers display was very well attended.  Sounds like we'll have a lot of new players meeting with us next week.

Thank you to Denise Gaither, Sue Bernth, and Elaine Moore for all your help.

Of course, we can always count on Dave and Linda Hardy to be at the poker tables.

The genealogy club certainly had an attention getter at their table.

The photography club was there to show their wares.

What a fantastic photo of this owl!!!!

This was a day to "show off" and it was FUN.  Makes us proud to be "Creekers".

The Diamonds Concert

WOW!!!  That was a definite Las Vegas class show!  Great music and wonderfully talented performers.  Singing, dancing, and instruments were spot ON.  Little Adam at the young age of 25 has a fantastic career ahead of him with all the talent and energy he possesses.

The saxaphone player has been with this band for 45 years.  He was really great.

All four singers were a joy.

.......and I now have a mad crush on the drummer.  😍

Congratulations to our Activities and/or Events staff that brought such great entertainment.

Stuff

Have you had lunch at our lovely bistro lately?  They make really good soups and sandwiches.

The Bistro is a GREAT place to meet friends or neighbors.

Try the Palm Creek chicken salad on wheat.  Awesome and definitely my favorite.  Here I am telling Don to wait a minute till I'm ready.  He didn't listen.

We took a peek into the kitchen too.

Monday night bingo was a big crowd of 251 people.  Had to keep setting up more tables as players entered.

Janet Cordasco was the lucky jackpot winner on game 6.  It was her first time to play bingo here as they just arrived at the park this week.  That's "beginner's luck".  It is Janet's first visit to the park and says she is definitely wanting to extend her stay and come back again next season too.

Pet Smart

Don and I received a gift card for use at Pet Smart.  We made a restocking trip there yesterday and "the boys" were happy when we returned home.  I didn't get around to unpacking the bags right away which I regretted later when I had to clean up the whole table and floor.

It seems "the boys" did some sampling and about shredded one of the bags.  There are small teeth marks all over the Science Diet bag too but they couldn't break into that tougher vinyl bag.

Thank you to Janet and Morgan!
