Announcements, Quail, Cactus Flower, New People

I had the opportunity to congratulate Lisa Harold on her recent promotion to Western Regional Vice President.  She assures me that Palm Creek will remain a high priority as she searches for a replacement as General Manager.  Our resort will remain in her territory so she will still be involved with major decisions here and will keep a watchful eye on our well being.  Be sure to read her letter in the next post.  Lisa has certainly done a wonderful job for us since she came on board two years ago.

Don and I spotted mama quail with a whole brood of tiny tiny babies.  She crossed the road in front of us and then hid the kids along this wall by the golf course.  It was awesome to see!  The chicks were still fuzzy so were definitely just newborns.

They were so small and well camouflaged that they were almost invisible until I enlarged the photo so much that it became blurry.

Check out this short video so you can see them in motion.

Just when you think you've seen every cactus blossom in the resort, another one pops up to catch attention.  This one is really brushy with thorns near the top of each stalk.

These dainty small pink blossoms pop out along the row of thorns.

So delicate and colorful.  Can be seen at Site 1736 along Coyote Trail.  Anyone know the owner?  Send them this photo as they may have not seen the blossoms before.

Next stop was up at the club house where we spied Bob Anderson at the pool table as usual.

I met some new folks in the library.  They're only here for two weeks or so to visit relatives in the area.  It was fun talking to them though as they are VERY impressed with Palm Creek.

Told Tom about our Crayons and Cocktails group as I'm sure he'd enjoy meeting others with this same past time.

I need to use my phone as a recording device and send myself notes cause my memory gets big blank spaces in it sometimes.  Sorry.........can't remember this nice lady's name.  Dang!  Hate it when that happens.  Anyway......they will be here at the BBQ next week so if you recognize them, be sure to say hello.

"The Mrs." is doing some very intricate needle work so I'm certain she would find close friends in the sewing group.

Use caution when driving around the resort for the next couple days as some of the streets will be cut open to install the new fiber optic cable for our Dish service.  That's exciting as we'll all benefit from faster internet.

General Manager Announcement

This announcement will be going "over the wire" today.  Please share with other Palm Creek residents.

FROM LISA HAROLD, PALM CREEK GENERAL MANAGER

May 19, 2016

Dear Residents,

I am pleased to share a special announcement with you.  You may be aware that Sun is in the process of a very exciting acquisition set to close in the next few weeks, which will bring many new resorts to our portfolio, spanning from California to Florida and beyond.  As part of the reorganization to accommodate these new sister communities, I have been offered and accepted a new role as a western Regional Vice President effective June 9th.

In this new role, I will continue to oversee Palm Creek as part of my portfolio and will stay very involved with the resort.  Palm Creek has many working parts, and rest assured that we will select a replacement for my position who will continue to manage the resort to the highest level.  Once the position has been filled, we will send a notification out to everyone.

Holding the position of General Manager has been a great honor and privilege.  I have had the good fortune of working with a phenomenal team and I leave the resort in very capable hands.  Palm Creek will always hold a very special place in my heart, and I treasure the time I have spent with all of you.  I look forward to being a partner in leading the resort through new exciting projects to come.

Thank you for your residency and support during this transition!
Sincerely,

Lisa Harold, General Manager
Palm Creek Golf & RV Resort

Golf, New Houses, Birds, Vacation Homes

Another beautiful morning!  Glorious 73 degrees, clear sky, no wind, --- perfect day for some golf.....and it's FREE!

It's strange to see Mary on the green instead of the tennis court.

The only way a cactus flower can be prettier is if a bee happens by to pose....just like this one.  Thank goodness for digital photography though as I took about 10 shots to get one that wasn't blurry.

Renee Ferrell stopped by our house this morning to tell us about the acorn woodpeckers that hammer away at the windows on the sewing room every day.  We stopped by to take a look and sure enough.........there they were.  One flew away as we approached but this one was a real fighter.

You can see the damage they have done to the screen.
We watched the bird repeatedly fly into the windows as he battled the image he saw.  Hope I can catch them in action another day.

Maintenance is cutting a channel across Cole Circle.  I wonder if it's for the new optic fiber optic cable coming in.  Will try to get more info.

Now for all the activity at the new houses in Phase 3.  These houses are numbered 2066 through 2061 along the street named Molten Rock Drive.

Across from them is another new one at 2088.

I never noticed how they make the expansion lines in a driveway.

Mesa Awning is busy installing at the new houses.
Yes, he is a professional body builder in his spare time.  :)

Here's a view down Jagged Stone Drive.

I understand that the city actually creates the names for the new streets since they have to coordinate them with all the maps & CPS info that gets created.  If I'm wrong about that, let me know.

Don and I talked about these houses this morning and visualize how fun it would be for an active couple to stay here.  The homes are lovely, all decorated and landscaped.  Their location is ideal for pickleball players and swimmers.  Plenty of entertainment for watching the ballgames too.  Plus the fact they're near the Sports Grill for breakfast and lunch.

We just noticed that the rope is released from the new pool palm trees.  I was wondering what they would look like once the ropes were untied.

Very nice.  We certainly live in a beautiful resort!!  People keep asking us why we don't go away for a vacation.  We reply:  "We live in Disney Land.  Where would we want to go that we haven't already seen?"

Coffee & Flowers

Another beauty showing off its best!  It's amazing how the cactus can plan to put out all these blossoms at the same time.  Laurie Dale found these beauties at Site 489 this morning.

I found these at 1128 at the home of Ed and MaryAnn Brown.

Today was one of our summer events..........morning coffee and donuts!

We had a nice turn out.

Lisa Harold was there to mingle and say Good Morning.

Of course, MaryAnn was present to oversee the event.

The term "bird brain" isn't all bad.  These crazy finches have learned that if they land on the hummingbird feeder and get it swinging back and forth, they get treated to the sweet sugar water that splashes out.  They do this over and over during the day and even bring their young to teach them how too.

Watch this short video to see their tricks:
