Tennis & Glass Work

 Their super bowl tournament this weekend was a great success.

Always good food and drinks.  All these fun activities keep the club active and increasing in numbers.

I was introduced to Simone Chauvet yesterday. She recently completed this beautiful artwork in the Stained Glass Shop and explained that the piece was very important to her because it included a champagne bottle from her late husband's family winery in France.    Congratulations, Simone, on a beautiful keepsake.

Cancer Awareness Weekend

I'm assuming you have all seen the February issue of the park's newsletter:  The Happenings.  What a fantastic document!  Very well done with great photos and packed solid with information.  We thank Barb Poole for a beautiful production.  Barb's photography hobby has certainly paid off.  I LOVED this night time photo of the gas jets from the balloonists.  Very nice!

The Cancer Awareness Event was very successful.  There were many items at the silent auction.

The hot chocolate, coffee, and especially all the homebaked cookies were well received.

Did you see the guys from the photo club who perched on the rooftop for the event?

It was also a great weekend for the in-house pickleball tournaments.  Here's a gold medal group ready to play with last minute instructions from the referee.

Photographers were lined up to get photos of the medal recipients.

The same faces appear at the registration tables and volunteer stations throughout any pickleball events.

Tournament play schedules are constantly updated.

Pickleball players love their vibrant colors.

I bet this massage booth was well attended at the end of a hard day.

It is fun to stop by the dog agility park and watch some of the training events in progress.  I asked Karen Rust to send me some information and photos to post.  

FROM KAREN RUST RE: THE DOG AGILITY EVENTS

Along with Lynne Benton, and help from several former students and new Palm Creek guests with agility experience, we had an excellent 'first term' of agility classes.  The next set of classes starts this week and will run until the first week of March. 

The agility season wraps up with a fun match to be held on March 10 in the Agility Bark Park next to the ball diamond.  Spectators are welcome.  The Valley Humane Society has been invited to bring adoptable pets to meet and donations in support of their important work will be gladly accepted.  The Fun Match will start at 9:00 a.m. and conclude around noon.  Registration forms are available in Activities.

Among the many fund raisers and events this weekend was the horseshoes tournament.  Come on down to join the group and learn to throw a ringer!

I'm back!

WOW.  I spent 10 whole days locked in the house with no outside contact with friends or neighbors due to a nasty bout of bronchitis.  Thank you to all who emailed me complaining about no current posts on this blog.  At least I know I was missed.  (They were all 'friendly' and concerned folks who kept in touch. :))

The good news is that I'm healthy again and fully recovered so can get back in reporter mode for this huge upcoming cancer awareness weekend.

This morning there were two pancake breakfasts being served before a gang of volunteers started filling the bags for the luminaries.  The golf tournaments are well underway as well.

I made it to the Texas Hold'em poker game Wednesday night along with 90+ other residents.  We had a full 12 tables of players which is maximum capacity for our current room.

Today Don and I drove over to check the progress of the new activity pool.  The kool deck has been completed and there is nice tile around the edges.

Lots of landscaping being done around the outside of the fence.

The new restrooms are being painted and should be done in another week or so.  

Newly refinished tennis courts had to be delayed due to the cold weather as the special paint requires warmer temperatures.  

Welcome Back Fiesta

This year's welcome back fiesta was a great time for clubs to showcase their activities and invite newcomers to their groups.  The weather fully cooperated so we had plenty of sunshine and clear sky to highlight the day.

Over 1200 meals were served.  Always be sure to get your tickets early as food is purchased several days in advance of an event.  

You can bet that Barb Poole was there.  Hope she didn't overheat that camera.  

A friendly mariachi band traveled throughout the crowd.

The highlight of the day was a show by a dance group that featured traditional Mexican music.

Costumes were BEAUTIFUL.  This first dance was performed with a glass candle holder placed on their heads.  I imagine for evening performances, the candles would be lit.

I couldn't choose which of my photos to post so you get to see a lot of them.
