I received an email from a friend this morning that really touched my heart.  See below:

Wayne and I would like to wish all our very special American Friends Happy Thanksgiving. We feel thankful to have you in our lives.

While the world around us becomes more complicated every day with poverty, devastating loss, religious & political strife, we are blessed to enjoy the friendship between the United States and Canada.

We hope you are having a wonderful peace-filled day with family and friends.

Now instead of just two houses on this new street, there are FIVE.  I'm envious of new homes along this street as they'll be where the action is.  

  

 

 

The concrete trucks are back at work putting in that last street.

 

 
Check this out!  Our recycling team received a wonderful gift. They now have their very own mini truck to take care of the corrugated boxes.

We have a special bin for textile recycling....meaning old clothing.  A special NEW dumpster for glass....and one for "plastic bags".  We need to separate our plastic grocery bags from the rest of the recycling materials because the handles from those small bags get tangled in the recycling equipment and make a big mess.  From now on, dispose of them separately please.

 

All 24 of the pickleball courts were in use this morning!  Look at the bikes lined up.  This is truly an ACTIVE adult community! 

 

Softball games are in session as well.

Novem-beer-fest

Hmmmm.....I thought that once the season had officially opened, I wouldn't need to be blogging so often..............but..............then all these people kept coming up to me at the Novem-beer-fest and saying how much they appreciated the blog and loved to read it daily that I can't suppress the urge to continue writing even during season.  About mid-way through the event, I started to take some photos.  Sorry I don't have one of the big banners welcoming everyone to the event.

 

It was a HUGE turnout.  Everyone LOVED sitting out on the grass of Palm Park instead of being seated in the parking lot.  It may have been a nightmare for those trying to set up the event as they had to drag electric lines from everywhere but it was definitely appreciated by guests.

The Pots of Petals program was well received.  How awesome it is to just say "I want that...and that...and that...and have someone else plant it for you in a pretty pot."  Fernando and Lillie were on duty to oversee the event.  AND of course, Faustino was there to do the planting.

 

 

I took a couple photos of folks enjoying the event.  The weather was PERFECT!!

 

 

The volunteers in the booths were having FUN.  They work hard but do have FUN and that's the name of the game here.  Sign up to volunteer at this type of event.  It's the perfect way to meet new friends and feel part of the atmosphere.  Sign up in Activities.

I ALWAYS   try to get photos of the many volunteers who do the behind the scenes work for these events.  I peeked in the kitchen and here they were.  Thank you to one and all.

A very special THANK YOU to all the people who stopped to compliment the blog.  It means the world to me. It is so nice to have a hobby that others can enjoy.  AND...to answer the question for the thousandth time....No, I do not receive any monetary compensation for doing this other than the few gracious folks who send gifts of appreciation.  BUT....thanks again to the Pickleball club for their generous donation.  Don and I really loved our dinner at Olive Garden last night.  

Nasty Computer Virus

BEWARE!! 

NASTY COMPUTER VIRUS SPREADING FAST!

All joking aside.  There is a NASTY virus flying around the internet recently and it has drifted around here in the park among friends.  If you receive an email from a friend that has a subject line of "Hi (your name)"......even though it has your name in it...DO NOT OPEN IT.  It is a nasty fast spreading virus that infects your email.  It then sends out an email to everyone in your contacts list and then THEY open it and spread it even further.

I certainly don't understand why intelligent gifted people who are smart enough to create these viruses spend their time causing damage and frustration instead of doing something good with their talents!  Grrrrr......

First Games on the New Courts!

Here is the day we've been anticipating all summer long!  Today was the "official" grand opening of the  new pickleball court complex.  

 

President, Mark Nelson, greeted the audience of avid players and gave special thanks to some special participants.

 

Our General Manager, Wendell Johnson, was present to welcome everyone to the grand event.  He talked about Palm Creek becoming a premier destination for active players as pickleball is the fastest growing sport.

 

Rosemary Reese received special recognition for the magnitude of hours she devotes to the club with her blog, schedules, and plethora of paperwork and behind the scenes organization.  Check out that very special paddle.  Rosemary is Queen of the Courts.

 
Other staff members were present:  Wendell, Dora, Ann, Gary, and Diane.

 

I was sooo excited and honored when Mark called me down to the courts and thanked me for the summer long blog entries so folks back home could monitor the building progress.  I sincerely thank the members of the Pickleball Club for their generous gift certificate.  Don and I will truly enjoy that meal.  Thank You!!

 

Speaking of Don....he was up above shooting video so watch for some action film in the next day or two.  It may take him a while to get the editing done since our kitchen table is lined up with computer repair work.  Don was right by my side on all those HOT days as we toured the construction site.

  I tried to get some good action shots as the games began.

 

 

 

 

 

 

And not to be forgotten..........there was a softball game in progress later that morning.  Here is our friendly group of loyal fans doing the wave for their heroes.

P.S.  Just peeked at the Palm Creek Facebook page and saw the great video posted there.  I'm going to put Don back to work at his computer jobs and tell him he doesn't have to edit his video as this one is already done.  I think Peggy Fetzer is doing this with her Ipad.  Thanks, Peggy.  I'll post a link here for those of you who still don't have a Facebook account.

It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood!

Aha......the first craft fair of the season and it was well attended.  I do so admire some of our local artists and craftsmen.  Look at all the hand carved figures here.

 

Here is Bob Herinck with his wood scroll pieces.  Very intricate workmanship!

 

Caroline Stone makes the most darling quilted children's books.

 

Jan and George Waters have their huge custom made earrings.

 

Plus George is still making his Pegs & Jokers games and the new Fast Track game.

 

My friend, Sue, is back with her handmade crafts as well.  If you don't have one of her baked potato bags, be sure to get one.  They're fantastic for baking potatoes in your microwave.

 

There was a nice crowd for the first fair of the season.

 

 

Sandy Morin and Lesley Kant were at a booth for the Help a Kitten program.

 

Our chefs were busy grilling up lunch on the patio.  Love those monster cheeseburgers!

 

Volunteers were selling tickets.

 

 

Peggy and Rex were at the table to support the cancer drive.  Peggy couldn't smile because she had just taken a big bite of hamburger and told me to go away with my camera.

 

Hats off to the kitchen staff for being able to feed all these people.  

 

We even caught a picture of Pat Mitchell and Marilyn Goeken at work in the sinks.

 

At the end of that busy day of shopping and eating, we went to Tom and Elaine's house for more eating.

Now we were treated to the labor of their love.  DELICIOUS! Thanks for sharing your catch!

 

 

Walgreen's Drug Store was here in the park today to give FREE health screenings.  You could also get a flu shot.  I was tested for cholesterol, blood sugar, blood pressure and a healthy weight for my height.  I only failed one.  HA!  I was very pleasantly surprised to hear about all the other available programs Walgreens has to offer...especially about their special fitted shoes.  If you order them and they don't fit comfortably, you can return them!  Awesome program for those of us with special needs when it comes to shoes.  Thank you, Walgreens, for visiting our park today.
